My wife and I had done Viking's "Romantic Danube River Cruise" from Budapest to Nuremberg in November, 2011, and the "Rhine River Getaway Cruise" from Basel to Amsterdam in November 2012. We thoroughly enjoyed both cruises- the sights, the shore options, the great food, and outstanding professionalism of the crew. We were treated as if we were royalty! The weather that time of year, though, left a little to be desired. So we thought we'd like to do the same thing, but at a different time of year. Viking's "Grand European Tour" gave us that opportunity. We sailed from Amsterdam up the Rhine River, then across the Main River/Canal in Germany (a new experience), and then down the Danube to Budapest. While many of the sights we saw were the same, there were some new ones. Besides, spending two nights in Vienna can never get too old, or seeing the magnificence of the Melk Abbey was worth it. And we got to experience the Middle Rhine and Wachau Valley part of the river cruise in sunshine instead of clouds and fog. I know Viking can't do anything about the weather, but cruising in the spring proved to be worth it. We had a great time experiencing the trip with our brother-in-law and his wife, but made many new friends (an easy thing to do on any cruise). We really like the 14 day length of the trip; it didn't feel like we had just boarded the ship and had to pack up to leave. A great itinerary! We'd highly recommend this tour and any of the Viking cruises- we've also done the Seine River Cruise from Paris to Rouen/Normandy and back, and the Viking Homelands Ocean Cruise from Stockholm to Bergin. We've been so satisfied with Viking, that we're signed up to take the "Elegant Elbe" River Cruise from Prague to Berlin next spring. Our fifth Viking cruise. And I'm sure there will be many more. Enjoy!

Cabin veranda

We were upgraded to a veranda cabin due to our previous business with Viking. It was a very pleasant surprise!
