I had seen the fjords of Norway 55 years ago, and I wanted to have a close up experience this time. And what a truly spectacular experience it was. The ports visited from Stockholm to St. Petersburg and back to Bergen were beautiful and the shore excursions were very informative. And, of course, the Viking Sea was a wonderful way to see them. It was our first ocean-going ship, and we loved it. And, of course, the crew was great. They catered to our every needs.
We had only one small snag. Our cruise was shortly after a terrorist incident elsewhere, and security getting onto and off the ship was very tight (something we were very grateful for). But apparently the ship hadn't worked out the kinks yet, and when trying to board the ship after an excursion in the embarkation port of Stockholm, we had to wait in line for almost an hour to board. This only happened the one time. All other boarding went very smoothly.
So smoothly that on the day we returned from a train trip from Berlin, it was raining, and the crew lined up outside the ship with umbrellas to allow us to board through a dry tunnel! We were also given glasses of champagne going through the tunnel. They took very good care of us.
Our ship was beautiful, the crew wonderful, very good food, and spectacular sights. We are very much looking forward to our next adventure with Viking!
The cabin was very spacious, and we loved sitting on the veranda. The amenities were of good quality and were always kept stocked, as was bottled water.
