My mother who is 86 years old, has been wanting to go on a Viking River cruise for years. I received an email from Viking about two discounted cruises, one of which was on the Danube. My mother has always wanted to see Budapest and Vienna. When I told her about the Viking Cruise, the great price, and that I would go with her on the cruise, she was elated. We chose to take the extended stay in Budapest prior to the cruising date.
We both agreed that this was the best thing that we have ever done together. Budapest was more than we ever expected. Viking arranged our stay at the Budapest Marriott, which is located directly on the Danube. We had an unbelievable view of the Danube and the Palace across the river, that was lighted every night. Viking offered us optional guided tours of Budapest each day that we did purchase at a minimal cost. The Marriott Hotel was excellently appointed the staff was pleasant and helpful. A complete buffet breakfast was included for each day that we stayed. This cruise was a dream come true for my mother, we loved every experience; from the extended stay in Budapest to the exciting tours in Vienna. On board, we enjoyed the Viking room accommodations; the excellent meals; the wine and music provided every evening; the friendly Viking staff; and last but not least the wonderful friends that we made on the cruise.
We loved the heated bathroom floor.
This was a very quaint town, with cobbled streets and small store fronts. The Beautiful small church was the main attraction. We would have loved to have had more time to climb the hill to view the ruins above. Unfortunately, the Viking Ship had a brief stay there, as it was scheduled to arrive at our next port the same day. This was our first day of cruising during the day. We enjoyed the day cruising the Danube; viewing small towns and villages, and beautiful landscapes on our way to the next port.
