Traveled with children

Firstly, this was my first cruise. Went with close friends and their children, 14 and 20. Ship tooooo big and crowded for my taste. Ship more oriented toward families with children. The 14 year old had a great time, He made friends and was busy the whole week enjoying the slides and arcade. One adult pool for 4000+ people is utterly ridiculous. And so small to boot. If you weren't there at the crack of dawn, you did not get a spot at that pool, And if you did get a spot, you had to stay put all day or it woud be gone. Deck around pool was slippery. Witnessed people falling. One gentleman in particular fell and hit the deck hard. A beverage waiter walked right past him! Other guests helped him up. Most crew were polite and helpful but some seemed annoyed and curt when you approached with a question. Crew accents were hard to understand. One night at the Martinee Bar on deck, a glass accidently fell and broke. We had just gotten there and had one drink. A half hour later, a crew member came to clean it up. We asked for another round and he remarked, "Haven't you had enought!" We were astounded as we were all sober as a judge! Guest Services was unresponsive and unconcerned when my friend's daughter didn't return to their cabin overnight. Friends searched for hours looking for her. Her fault for not calling her parents on where she was but in the meantime my friends were frantic thinking the worst. Guest Services casually remarked that alot of times teens fall asleep in various places on the ship. Perhaps this was the case. Would not do public announcement unless a missing person report was filed. Daughter fine and learned lesson. Night entertainment was wonderful. I had a studio cabin. Very small but servicable. On whole, ship was well maintained and clean. Pubic bathrooms were not. As we just ate in the various dining rooms and didn't experience any of the specialty restaurants, food was average+. Garden Cafe buffet was always so crowded and confusing. Food was just edible. Nothing to rave about at all. Our mistake was not to take advantage of the specialty restaurants but you needed to make reservations weeks in advance for those. Unfortunately we did not. Specialty restaurants, we heard, were fabulous. Service on the whole was good and attentive throughout the ship. Bermuda was beautiful. Getting to Horseshoe beach was a breeze with a cab ride. Ferry to Hamilton was fast and convenient. And last but not least, embarkation and disembarkation was fast, smooth with no confusion or crowds. Very organized and kept everyone moving. Very grateful for that. Will I ever cruise again? Don't think it's for me unless it's a much smaller ship and I am taking a European tour.
