St Petersburg was a destination on our list and we were searching for the best cruise option to include this. The Viking Star itinerary was perfect as it left from Norway rather than the UK, took in the Fjords and many other fascinating place. Very port intensive which we prefer. The ship was outstanding in terms of decor and ambience. Food was fabulous in all restaurants but best pick was Manfredis. The included tours at all destinations and no additional charge for speciality restaurants made this a cost effective and relaxed way of cruising. The smaller number of passengers meant no real hassle at shore excursions even in tender ports. It also meant that getting tables in the speciality restaurants was never a problem. The included excursions were far better than we had anticipated and we used these when we wanted a quick tour around and then some free time to wander on our own,
We always like cabins on the stern and this one was better than similar on Celebrity or Holland America. The bathroom with full walk in shower and under floor heating was total luxury. Seating and bed were extremely comfortable and little extras like the vanity section in the dressing table with lighting and usb charge points make a big difference. Only downside is that the infinity pool overhangs this cabin balcony and on a couple of days overflow water did come down from the pool. If you were on a summer cruise and sitting on the balcony this could be an unwelcome surprise!!
