My sister and I decided to travel together. When we sat down to discuss plans, we both pulled out the Viking River Cruise brochure! Our bucket list trip - cruising the Rhone in the south of France! Viking could not have made this experience easier from our arrival in Marseilles to our departure in Lyon. The ships, accommodations, staff and crew, excursions, cuisine - just perfect. Now, keep in mind, due to heavy rains in France, the rivers were exceedingly high. River traffic was closed because ships could not move safely in the fast running currents, pass under bridges or through locks! Though our "cruising" was limited to moving from bridge to bridge in order to re-position the ship, Viking made certain we did and saw everything we had contracted to do and more! Halfway through our trip, we were transported to Lyon where we boarded a sister ship (those passengers were transferred to the Delling) and continued our adventure. Other than having to pack our bags once more, the change of venue was seamless and the Heimdel was just as comfortable, welcoming and efficient as the Delling. As I sit here writing this critique, I realize that there is nothing I could complain about. Faced with a situation clearly out of Viking's control, this organization went above and beyond to see to the comfort and pleasure of their guests. Would I travel with them again? My sister and I are planning to cruise the Romantic Danube next year! I simply cannot wait!
The cabin was very well appointed. We had a French balcony which allowed a beautiful view when we weren't moored against the hull of another ship! For two women, the cabin was a bit small with limited storage space, but we really spend a minimal amount of time there. The bathroom was efficient. And the housekeeping service was excellent.
Absolutely loved Avignon. Because of River conditions, we remained in port longer than intended and had extra opportunities to discover this ancient city.
