we spent one day in basel before we departed. it rained all day, but we took the city tour anyway. the idun provided umbrellas in conjunction with our private street car made it a delightful excursion regardless of the rain. we spent the morning of our departure on a delightful walk along the rhine which gave us a glimpse of the multi-cultural aspects of the basel residents.

we enjoyed all of the cities which we visited along with the beauty of the country that the idun passed through. but the thing that we enjoyed most was the magnificent treatment we received at the hands of all of the idun staff. the household maintenance staff had our cabins cleaned whenever we left them - for meals or excursions or anytime. they were fastidious about the cleanliness that always greeted us on our return to the cabins. we have never experienced such treatment.

then the dining staff, whose attitude was established by our very charming maitre de, was absolutely outstanding. wine glasses were never allowed to go empty, and the bread basket was constantly filled without request. they were exceedingly friendly, but provided us the very best of butleresque type service.
