Fabulous cruise! We were on the Tialfi's maiden voyage, and everything was perfect. Even though the staff had not worked together before, you never would have known. They were professional, personable, and tried to make everything perfect. Food was great, and the cruise director was fabulous. This was our second Viking cruise, and we plan to take another next year.
The cruise was Basel to Amsterdam. The scenery was gorgeous. Each day's included tour was great. We aren't really "tour people" (we prefer to organize trips on our own), but we never felt herded around. The local guides were interesting and very professional. They spoke very good English with one exception. In that instance it was a new guide, and the cruise director was not happy so I doubt if he was around for subsequent cruises.
Our cabin was lovely, but like all cruise ships quite small. It was very well organized and we had room for everything. Housekeeping did an excellent job. Dinners were great and we met a lot of fun and interesting people. On both of the Viking cruises we have been on, we had one waiter that we seemed to bond with. They took really good care of us!
We booked a cabin on the lower level. After paying for a balcony on a previous cruise, we realized that we were never in our room, and had only gone onto the balcony once. Our window was at water level. We woke up one morning to about 20 swans swimming right outside our window. It was like a fairytale!
