This was my 6th cruise. I have cruised 2x with Norwegian, 2x with Holland, 1x with Celebrity and 1x with Carnival. I was excited about cruised on the Eurodam since it was new and cruising again with Holland. It was not as I expected and I felt a little let down. I took my 6 yo daughter with me and knew the kids program would not compete with Carnival or Norwegian. The program for her age started out slow but half way through the cruise they were actually planning things for her age group. One day a kid got sick in the family pool and they closed it down. I think during this time they should have had a back up for all the kiddies left w/o. They would not under any circumstances allow the kids into the adult pool. They even had people standing around it and were kicking out those kids who had gone in with their parents. I took my daughter to the xbox room (cool idea). The one crew in the room was lounging and taking what appeared to be a nap. We went in the room and out of 9 xboxes only 3 were working. The lady next to me informed me she had already asked the one crew member for help and non was available. After figuring out most the controls batteries had been taken I went to the girl who got up and started helping. She got new batteries and then got a key to reset most the xboxes. I was surprised that the kids club did not have a first aid kit. My daughter needed a bandaid and they had to search for one. The front desk did have plenty which was convenient. The food turned out to not be as good as I had remembered on my first cruise with Holland. Food was bland and sometimes the fish did not seem fully cooked. I do not eat red meat so not sure about that. The dining room on the second floor also was not that clean. By this I mean the walls. The staff was very cordial and showed my daughter how to make the napkins in their shapes and one of the waiters was a magician and he would come over and do tricks. The desserts were ok nothing big. One night when they did have chocolate cake, which I was going to order, they brought out Baked Alaska for everyone and gave it to everyone instead of taking orders. The food on the Lido deck was better to me than the dining room. At the captains lunch for returning guests he was a no show. In fact I did not see any of the officers. That was a let down. The cabins are very well appointed and the balcony was very nice. OUr room steward did a fabulous job. I though the shows were ok. The best were the shows put on by the crew. The disembarkation was excellent as well embarkation. Some of the staff did seem rude at times though their numbers were very small. There was one lady at the front desk that was not very helpful but that was a rarity. I thought it a little strange that instead of giving name tags in the Italian restaurant they gave names that were Italian for foods to staff instead of their given names. That seem dehumanitizing to me somehow. The ports were good. Turks and Caicos was very small but if you do an excursion you get to see the small island. We did a stingray excursion which was excellent. San Juan is beautiful and Johnny Depp was filming a movie while we were there. Tried to get a shot of him but to no avail. At St. Thomas took the ferry to St. John for an island tour. Beautiful but too fast. Holland's private island is beautiful and the BQ was good. Watch for all the little lizards on the walkways. I don't think I will travel with Holland again. They did ask for feedback on the second night of the cruise via a written form. I put the lack of a first aid kit. They asked what they could do to make the cruise better for you and I put fresh flowers in our room one day since my daughter loves flowers. I don't think anyone read the forms cause no flowers. On the other hand though fresh flowers everywhere and it smelled good throughout the ship. Nice touch.
