Cruising the Greek Islands with Oceania Cruises

Trip Details
  • Sail Date: May 2016
  • Destination: the Western Mediterranean
  • Cabin Type: Concierge Level

We cruised with Oceania for the first time last May because many friends had experienced Oceania and recommended Oceania Cruise Line. We did benefit from many specials starting with free internet, some free excursions, free gratuities. Free airfare and 2 for 1 pricing were available for everybody with Oceania Cruises.

If we go back, we would take a first night in Athenes before the cruise because of the red eye flight.

We appreciated that the specialty restaurants were free of charge though we were limited to one visit per venue per cruise. We never had to wait in the main dining room and were immediately accompanied to our table.. The service was excellent and personalised throughout the ship.

We liked that they used the ports' tenders, operated by the Greeks. They were more spacious and the personnel was sympathetic. The excursions were well organised and the guides knowledgeable.

l would not book a transatlantic cruise on Oceania, because their ships are small compared to other new ships and offer less activities thoughout the day but this was not a problem since we visited a now port each day in the Mediterranean.

The storage space in the room is small and we had to ask for more hangers.

We booked the transfer from the Athenes Airport to the port, wich was a good idea but the transfer in Venice from port to Airport was very very expensive when we know now that the same transfer from other ships costs less for 2 people, than the cost for one passenger with Oceania.

Cabin Review

Concierge Level
Cabin A4 9127

The cabin was of regular size for the category. The bathroom was more spacious with separate bath and presented floor to ceiling ceramic/granit.

Our fridge was always filled with softdrinks and water, as many as we cared to drink.

We had access to the concierge lounge which offered softdrinks, sandwiches and biscuits, newspapers.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

Athens (Piraeus)

In Athenes, we went directly from the Airport to the port.

City Tour

We had to walk for about 10 minutes from the port to the tour bus on uneven ground. We liked the scenery on this tour.

Oia Wine Tasting

The tender ride to reach the tour bus was rather long as it was raining and we had to go on the upper deck because there was no more place Inside the tender.

Village Olive Mill

The guide gave us many interesting and useful information on her country. After this tour, we benefited from the buses booked by Oceania Cruises to visit the fortress.

Murano Island

In Venice, we had the opportunity to have a gondola tour before going to Murano Island and see an artist "glassblower" make a vase.
