Frequent cruiser on Celebrity and Disney; British Isles itinerary booked 18 months earlier on a Celebrity transatlantic cruise; offered easy way to see multiple UK and Irish locations since most of my previous UK trips had stayed in London. Followed cruise with a 10 day driving trip through Burgundy.
Had a very nice veranda stateroom midships near the main elevator bank which was very convenient. Have been using select dining option last few cruises, go when you want, and usually be able to get a table for 2. After full day off ship not in mood for much "stranger" conversation, just want to relax and talk about next day's agenda.
Have Elite status which brings multiple perks including a lounge for free drink and snacks from 5 to 7 which works for us since we usually don;t want to eat before 7:30.
Cabin standard "deluxe" type very familiar to us. Good storage space and room for empty luggage under beds. Bathroom has lots of space for two people's stuff. Nice veranda with a little more room due to cabin location.Celebrity beds are very comfortable, provided bathroom amenities ok, and more available as needed from cabin attendant. Always need to ask for more hangers after unpacking clothes. Bring our own magnetic hooks to put on wall and handle hats, lightweight shirts, etc.
Been to Amsterdam multiple times; arrived day before cruise and visited Leyden on our own. Same with Flor Holland on departure day before heading to ship.
Walked around, visited multiple spots including museum at top of hill.
Had private excursion included castle and church above port.
Took shuttle bus in and had a busy day with Book of Kels, churches, museums and testing stout.
Took Edinburgh on your own bus from Glasgow and spent time doing all the obvious places we could get to; not enough time due to 2 hours each way on busses.
Rented a car right at port for both days; first day drove to Caen to see WWII/DDay museum and memorial which was excellent. Then spent rest of afternoon in Honfleur which is very close to Le Havre. Delightful walking shopping and snack.
Next day went to Malraux museum in Le Havre and then drove to Etretot, about 30 minutes north for great cliffs and rock formation and very good mussels for lunch.
Took local shuttle bus to Dover Castle and did tour of wartime caves and walk around tour and some museums. Great views of harbor and channel.
