There were 9 people in my traveling party. We chose Norwegian because they offered a decent price for the cruise that we were interested in taking. We also liked the idea of not having a formal night as we knew that we were already going to have to pack heavy for Alaska. We had four cabins all together, three of which were mini suites. Although I had never sailed with Norwegian before, I was under the assumption that they were comparable to Royal Caribbean, Princess, Celebrity and Holland America, all of which we have sailed with in the past. Unfortunately, we were sadly mistaken. The food quality and choices offered by NCL were very disappointing. Chicken parmesan and pot roast were some of the choices offered for dinner in the main dining room. My son ordered the NY Strip steak one night and asked for it to be cooked medium rare. When the steak arrived, it was cooked properly but it was so tough that you could not cut through it. It looked, tasted and felt like a Select cut of meat. Every fish entree that was ordered during our cruise was way overcooked and dried out. The food offered on the buffet was not much better. It was often cold and was not replenished in a timely fashion, if at all. In addition, every other cruise that we have ever taken offered a captain's dinner in the main dining room in which the diners could chose a fancier entree like lobster tail, filet mignon or crab legs. Norwegian cruise line does not. You can order a lobster tail, but it is an upcharge of $25. The maintenance of the ship was not much better. The bathrooms in the mini suites were missing grout and had rusty, mildewed caulk lining the floors. There was a bucket of dirty water and a mop that stayed in the same place in the hallway outside of our staterooms for several days. Dishes that were put outside the staterooms for pickup were often left for more than 12 hours. In summary, I will continue to cruise but it just will not be with Norwegian Cruise Lines.
