We are a retired couple. We wanted to unpack once and see several places in different countries. Mega ships with lots of activities, multiple restaurants, etc. just don't appeal to us. Our travel agent recommended an AMA river cruise and he was right on! We cruised the Rhine from Amsterdam to Basel. The ship is excellent. Like new condition. We had about 125 passengers. Fantastic crew! Absolutely every crew member just could not do enough for us. Our cabin (we opted for a suite so my wife could have a bathtub) was wonderful. And conversations with other passengers indicated that, if you don't need a bathtub, all of the cabins were exceptionally nice. We also determined that all amenities were available to all passengers, independent of what size cabin you had.
As on most cruises, the food was very good and plentiful. One seating, open seating, sit with whomever you want. No formal evenings. Resort casual wear is perfect for everything. I did wear my blazer a couple of times, but may not take it next time, as we travel very light. Every evening, they brought aboard entertainment from the surrounding area. All very good.
One caveat: there are no activities for kids! This suits us perfectly, but would not suit a family with young ones. There is a small swimming pool on the top deck, but the weather was too cold for us to use it. There also is a running track up top and lots of seating. No need to rush up to grab a chair. We mostly enjoyed just watching the great scenery go by in between the tours of each town where we docked. All tours included in the base price. Local guides were used at each location.
Included large bathroom with twin sinks and separate shower and bathtub.
