I chose this cruise because of the more leisurely pace (10 days instead of 7) for a French river cruise and the availability of single cabins on Vantage vessels. Also the unfortunate downturn in French tourism led to the offer of free air, which made the trip more affordable. I also wanted to see the Pont du Gard, which surprisingly few Rhone itineraries offer.
The itinerary was very well designed with overnights in both Lyon and Avignon. There was free time in both cities. The guides for the shore excursions were good to excellent. The tour buses were all in top shape.
The food was very good and served by a friendly, efficient staff. The Compass Rose dining room is an attractive venue. Breakfast was a buffet with an omelet station. Lunch was all-buffet some days with additional menu selections on other days. Wines at dinner were varied and of high quality. The Captain's Club on the top deck aft offers an attractive casual alternative for lunch and dinner with a lighter buffet menu. The glass roof can be opened but was not, probably because the weather was hot.
The cabin was very well laid out with all the amenities of a double cabin except for the single bed. Storage was ample. The television had a large screen and a good offering of channels and films. The mattress was a bit softer than I am accustomed to. Sound leakage through walls of adjoining cabins was no worse than on other riverboats I have sailed on.
Bathroom was efficiently designed. Vacuum system for toilets was noisy.
