This was our eighth cruise on Carnival. We were on a 7 day Eastern Caribbean itinerary during the week of July 2, 2016. Our ports were Amber Cove D.R., St Thomas, San Juan, and Grand Turk. We left from Port Canaveral on Saturday afternoon.
Passengers: 4700 on our sailing. There were as always, a good mix of young families, young couples and again like last year on the Conquest--many older people.
Getting there:
Cabin: We had connecting cabins on deck two 2293 and 2297. The location was excellent. Cabin Steward Edy was the best.
Amber Cove—Loved it! Went Zip lining. Prices have gone up on everything in AC in just 8 months. Zip line is now $20 for all day and the people selling won't even mention the $7 single trip.
St. Thomas: Beautiful Island, good shopping in this port and downtown. Beware---people on this Island drive without regard for themselves or others. We saw hit and run accidents and just a general lack of regard for safety. Also keep in mind that they drive on the left side of the road---opposite from back home. Still it is one of my two favorite ports.
San Juan: Plenty of bus taxi tours right off of the dock for $20 a person---2 hour tour. Don't forget that you are basically in the US at this point and they do have taxes on shopping.
Gran Turk: Beach Umbrellas everywhere now------$20 NADA. Umbrellas by the pool still free. Bring your water shoes, the sea floor is rocky and uneven. To rent a private Cabana----which is not cheap, is $135. Great if you want a place to cool off.
