It was our third time to take QM2. We took QM2 last year and were disappointed. But, we still wanted to give her a second chance, especially knowing that there was a dry port refurbishment. Unfortunately, she disappointed us one more time. While the ship was remastered, the room was still very dated. Well, we stayed in an inside room. Perhaps they did not care much about this tier of customers. The spa was not refurnished, except changing of the lighting. Broken/missing tiles could be seen easily.
On embarkation, I observed that boarding on the first day was a nightmare to many people. With our membership, we were fast tracked and waited for only 15 minutes. But, for hundreds of people, I saw them waiting in very long queue. I mean very long queue (standing!). Later on, I heard that some of them waited for 3 hours to check-in. Hard to imagine. I think that the ship was actually not ready to operate. We noticed broken toilets with pumping problems, broken water machines in King's Court, out of order ice cream machines, etc. The worst part was the air conditioning system. For one night, our room had no air conditioning and it was an inside room. We spoke to another passenger and she experienced the same. The temperature control of the ship was funny. When we walked inside the ship from one end to another, it was like travelling through different climate zones - cold, warm, cold, hot, .... etc.
The quality of food was shocking. On the first night, the fish was extremely salty. While I did not want to waste food, I simply could not finish it for health reasons. On the last night, we were told that the menu should be the best in the entire cruise. I ordered surf and turf - poorly prepared. I think some diners in NY would do a better job. The clam chowder soup was salty and watery.
Room was very dated. Signs of deterioration were very pronounced.
