  3. Disney Fantasy
Our kids are 10 & 8 years old and we figured it was time to do a Disney cruise before they were too old to appreciate the Disney characters. Overall the cruise on the Fantasy was very nice. The ship is beautiful and easy to get around: they have diagrams of the ship at every set of elevators that show you where you are. Good idea! 1) We enjoyed all the shows. I would say the magic, comedy, juggling & ventriloquist shows were great. The musicals (which are generally Disney themed) were more of a mixed bag. If you show up 10 - 15 min early you can get excellent seats. 2) The two pools on the main outdoor deck were small & way overcrowded at times. This may be the biggest deficiency for this boat. The slide (AquaDuck) was fun but not as exciting as most rides at water parks. 3) Service (cabin, dining room, guest services, embarkation etc.) was superb. 4) We used the kids' club (Oceaneer) on several occasions. The kids generally enjoyed it but did not want to stay for very long periods of timer.. It was not too difficult to check in/out. 5) The outdoor games (mini-golf, foosball, shuffle board) were quite fun. They need to replace the foosball tables. 6) We did three tours off the boat: a) Island Drive & Beach Break in Tortola: NOT RECOMMENDED. Better just to take a taxi straight to Cane Garden Bay (which is nice) if you want to go to a beach. b) Doubloon Turtle Cove Sail & Snorkel in St. Thomas : I reviewed this elsewhere in TA - so so. c) Stingray Adventure in Castaway Cay: The kids enjoyed it. Castaway Cay itself is great. 7) The frequent appearances of various Disney characters in the lobby and interactions with the guests were something special for younger kids and probably the main reason to choose Disney over other cruise lines. 8) Loved the breakfast buffet. We tried breakfast one day in one of the formal sit-down restaurants and it was mediocre compared to the buffet. We also had lunch in the buffet restaurant or sometimes at the snack area. The food in the snack area (pizza, burgers, dogs, bratwurst etc). was good. The sit down dinners were nice (and the rooms beautiful) though portions were often small and the food is more to European taste I would say. 9) One night we tried the adults only restaurant Palo. It costs $30/ea. They serve Italian fare. Very very relaxed environment compared to the regular dining rooms and a very engaging waiter. Despite our best efforts we ate too much that night. 10) We participated on various other activities like bingo, mirror mirror, magic workshop etc. and it was all fun. 11) I thought I would miss the casino that is present on other cruise lines but we were entertained enough without it. 12) Using the Disney shuttle to Orlando, and using the on ship flight check-in option, is the only way to go! We put our check-in luggage outside the cabin door the last night and we didn't have to touch it until we got to back to Houston. Our boarding passes were delivered to our cabin. 13) Embarkation & disembarkation were very well organized and not too painful. 14) We had the 2nd seating for dinner (8:15). At first I thought this was not optimum but changed my mind. The shows & other activities are timed so there no disadvantage to one or the other. One advantage of the late seating is that you get later seating for breakfast the morning of disembarkation (8:00 am vs 6:45 am for people with 1st dinner seating). 15) The movie theater on the ship shows Disney films. We saw the new movie "Finding Dory" there but otherwise found better things to do. They serve popcorn but unfortunately they charge for it (?).

Cabin Review

Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah
Cabin 04C 7134
This room was great. I can honestly say the 4 of us did not feel cramped in this room. The bunk bed swinging down from the ceiling saves space and is fun for the kids. The split bathroom (toilet with sink is separate from shower with sink) is convenient. And the balcony is a great place to store stuff (like beach toys, empty suitcases etc.) Lots of drawer space. The 7th deck is a good place to be. I would definitely get this room again
