Norwegian Spirit Review

NCL Spirit was just the right size for seniors. The price was right also.

Went to ports we wanted to visit and the departure date was at the time we want. The cruise ship was just the right size, not too many people like some ships. The Spirit is an older ship but the ship was easy to get around and crew was cheerful and helpful. The food was very good and the ship offered many venues that were free. If you wanted specialty dining, there were many options to choose from also. The two main dining rooms were Windows, and The Garden Room. Both offtered the same menu but WIndows was more formal requiring fancier dress and The Garden was more casual allowing relaxed dress style. The pool and hot tubs were well maintained but the lounge chairs for sunbathing were always in short supply. Get there early to secure your lounge chair on Sea Days, when the ship in not stopping at a port of call.

Cabin IF

Cabin was small but comfort and convenient to elevators and main dining rooms. Fine for single or couple but would not be good for more than 2 people in room.

Port Reviews

Barcelona

We did not use NCL excursions for any ports we visited. We used Cruise Critic to connect with people on our cruise to book private tours at each port and saved more than 50% on cost of tour that NCL was offering. Each cruise ship has a roll call list of people and spread sheet on Cruise Critic listing tours available for that cruise. Cruise Critic made it easy to meet people, share information and helpful hints and set up excursions for each port, before even boarding the ship. Our Cruise Critic coordinator for the SPIRIT helped us save hundreds of dollars with valuable advise.

Toulon

This port was very small and close to the docking area. Getting off the ship was easy and a very short walk to area where you can get a Petit sightseeing train for a few euros to take you on a tour of the port. You can get on and off train and explore areas at your leisure.

Rome (Civitavecchia)

The cruise line provided a bus to shuttle us to Civitavecchia from the dock and we walked from drop off point about 10 minutes to get to shopping area and open air market in town. Not much to see in way of attractions at Civitavecchia but nice area to shop and relax. We did not go into Rome because we had already spent a week in Rome a few years before and had seen all the major attractions there.
