  3. Queen Mary 2 (QM2)
Wanting a restful get away we took a last minute decision to take this trip - no bothersome shore excursions! Took 9017 on the refurbished ship - excellent - spacious , well fitted and apart from the couch - very comfortable. Good outside space. Priority boarding and disembarkation - stress free - others had issues when the system went down Thereafter Food - patchy. The Queens Grill more hits than misses, why you have to pre order some dishes for dinner was a mystery. Meat stronger than fish. Chose a table of 8 - were surprised that this was fixed seating for the trip so we were lucky to have an eclectic mix - otherwise it could have been trying. Why they could not mix the groups was not very clear. The few complaints at the table were dealt with more or less efficently. Veranda - tried it once - overly fussy to the point of being pretentious Kings Court. Looks like a hospital canteen , only ate there for the specialty "Smokehouse" experience - awful Pub - aceptable Plenty of other nooks and crannies - never felt crowded. Staff - typical cruise staff - some tried harder than others but to find your cabin not properly cleaned on arrival is not nice. As you can read the staff ratios are not as good as you would expect to find on a "luxury" cruise line. Diversions - nothing better than average - the shows very dated and no real draws for speakers. Expect to pay extra for art and IT classes, wine tasting etc. They try and talk up the experience and while many joined in the spirit of dressing up for formal nights etc it is all very faux - as is the decor. Many we spoke to who had used the ship previously spoke about it not being as "good as it had been" but with the right level of expectation it is a good way of having a complete relaxation. This is no luxury liner but a trade brand of a popular line.

Worth the experience, but have modest expectations.
