  • Destination: Russia River

We wanted to do a safe mother daughter trip in Russia. We started In Moscow and ended in St. Petersburg. We loved the trip. The included tours and lectures were great. The local guides were wonderful. Our ship guides, Alexei, Vadim, and Sasha were wonderful, knowledgeable, and open to any questions. They made the trip. We paid extra for a behind the scenes trip to The Hermitage that was well worth the money. All the workers on board were helpful and friendly. Constantine, the videographer, did a super job. We enjoyed all the stops along the river, especially Uglich and Kizhi. We were glad to be on the right side of the ship as we were able to see many of the stops as we approached them. Viking took care of us when our luggage was two days late. The Viking Doctor took good care of my daughter when she was ill. Be sure to go the ballet.

Cabin Review

Cabin Verandah 414

The cabin had a balcony which we used a lot. The lady who kept it clean was phenomenal. We actually had more room than I expected.

City Tour

We did a walking tour of the city that included the subway and Arbat Street. The evening tour which included a boat tour was magical. Be sure to see the city at night.

The Kremlin was bigger than we expected with buildings, gardens and churches. Don't miss the bell and the cannon.

Red Square

Red Square was beautiful, especially at night. If possible go to GUM department store; it is like Harrod's.

Catherine Palace

We liked this. The palace is located in Pushkin. The drive there was nice. I was interested in how the palace fared during WWII.

Neva River Cruise

This was good but not as nice as the river trip in Moscow. We liked seeing the city as Petr the Great wished, from the water.

We over history so we were happy to see the spot Peter the Great chose to build his first fort. The church was beautiful.

Peterhof Palace

This was our favorite palace. We were hustled through. That was fine. The gardens were fabulous. Be sure to be in the gardens at 11:00 am when the fountains come one. I wish we had had more time to wander. An hour was not enough.

Russian Ballet Show

We saw Sleeping Beauty. The theater was beautiful. So were the costumes. Two of the ballerinas had missteps. Overall great.
