We are pretty biased in respects to the port of San Diego. It is an excellent port, there is Horton plaza and the gaslamp district down town within walking distance as well as seaport village. The Midway (aircraft carrier) museum is right next to the ship terminal. There is the San Diego zoo as well as Baloa Park and the Spanish artists village right next to it. Also there is Sea World and the wild animal park. The restaurants are too numerous to name and the airport is only ten minutes away max. We deposited our luggage outside with the porter, tipping him a buck per bag. Alot of individuals had not even bothered to attach luggage tags to their belongings for some reason which made the wait for others even longer. Just print or copy more luggage tags, fill them out, cover them with clear tape or laminate them and staple them to your bags. We arrived at around 12:30 and there was already a zig zagging line to get into the terminal, and a fairly long wait to get checked in. They check you in by "zones" and we were already number eight when they stated that check in would not even start until 12:30. The staff was pleasant although there were really too many people waiting in the terminal building. It was loud and with the abundance of screaming children it just seemed to make it that much worse. Not the relaxing departure scenario as we have experienced in other ports with other cruise lines. Our number was called and we opted for the stairs as usual since the elevator situation looked like some scene from from one of those crowded overseas subway trains. The walk was not that far and we were soon onboard and eager to explore the ship. The ship was well decorated and in some ways better appointed than other cruise lines we have been on. The decor was not over the top or gaudy, the buffet area was alittle much color wise but not bad. The ship appeared to be in good shape and was clean as of the time of the departure. We chose and interior cabin which was actually an exterior cabin with an obstructed view. We chose this for the different experience. The cabin was very nice with plenty of storage and a nice sitting area. It was one of the best configured rooms for an inside cabin that we have seen on out various cruises. The bathroom was large enough for two people to stand side by side at the mirror if necessary. And the shower was large. The vanity area had plenty of storage and they put out disposable shaver in case you might have forgotten yours. The bedding was nice and the pillows were the most comfortable I have ever used. The temperature of the room was easily controlled and there was never an issue with not enough hot water. You could get the water hot enough to make tea if you wanted so be careful. The floor to ceiling doors in this cabin let in alot of natural light which was nice and they also opened if you wanted some fresh air. Now for some not so good stuff... The food in the main dining room was nothing compared to what we have experienced on other cruise lines, it was just adequate and did not make us want to go back for the dining experience, which was a shame because dining and discussing our day over a nice meal and wine is a nice part of our vacation. The dining room was loud and at times felt like we need to shout to talk to eachother, they could have turned up the music a little and even dimmed the lights more to tone it down. If you wanted to see what was for dinner in the main dining hall all you needed to do was walk by the buffet before dinner service and look at the signs that were out and that is what was being served in the main dining hall. Other than a few items like the shrimp cocktail and flank steak it was the same thing. Also if you want to be sitting next to someone in cutoff shorts, flip flops and a baseball hat then it might be for you. And it was not only the parents but young adults and children. Or if you wanted some child sitting by you playing on some electronic device then the main dinning room also might be for you. The wine steward came by once and that was it, or else would poor your red wine in a white wine glass and walk off, when another glass was requested ( which seemed to be an inconvenience) it was dropped of on the table while walking by. Dessert menus placed on the table before you had finished with your main course and salad placed on the table before you were even finished with your soup. Cream placed on the table before you said that you did not even want coffee.Listen.. this may be fine for some and we can blow off quite a bit, some may not even notice or care, but this was just not our cup of tea. They could have done without interrupting dinner for the staff to dance ( I just kind of felt even more embarrassed for them). Being more attentive rather than dancing might bring them more customers or even more of a gratuity. They did change our table to a table for two which was nice, after asking a couple of times. The pool areas were loud and since it was easter break and we knew that there would be children on board we never expected anything like this. All of the pools were frothing with children including the spas. When asked the staff said that there were no truly adult areas poolside that this was a "family ship". The one spa that was designated for adults was far aft and there was no shade for lounging and it was just the spa that was for adults not the pool too. So if you liked the wind aft with the rocking from the swell and the screaming children in the pool below you then that is your spot. The pool areas were so loud that we had to put earplugs in just to read. The young adults and the children were also in the interior buffet area with no shoes and no shirts on, the same behavior exhibited by some of their parents. The children put their feet on the furniture and left trash in their wake.If they wanted to eat in wet suits and bare feet and tops there were plenty of pool side buffet items. The children and young "adults" ran all over the pool areas never corrected by staff of absentee parents. The children would ride up and down in the elevators leaving trash and discarded dishes on the floors and pushing every floor button then exiting. They also managed to go deck to deck and remove the privacy signs. When you see a child with twenty plus of them in their hands you now they did not just come from their cabin. By this time people watching just became part of the entertainment. The supperclub was altogether another experience. The service was outstanding as well as the the quality of food and how it was prepared. The supper club helped to save our trip. The lighting, music and decor enhanced the dining experience. It was a pleasure to sit down at the end of our day and discuss or adventures at the supper club. In all of our cruises and dining experiences this was in the top two.Vladimir, Tanja, Szolt, Valentina, "Manny" and any others that we may have forgotten we appreciate your dedication to excellence in service. We could keep writing, but want to end it on that good note. No matter what the travel experience we always Travel Happy!

Cabin Review

Cabin 4f

Great for an obstructed view lots of natural light and you could open the doors for fresh air. Pleanty of closet and shelf space in the cabin. Large bathroom for a cruise ship, two people could be in the bathroom at the vanity at the same time. Nice sit down desk area as well as large couch with coffee table. One of the nicest interior rooms we have experienced.
