Trip Details
  • Sail Date: Jun 2016
  • Destination: the Baltic Sea
  • Cabin Type: AquaClass 2

This was our 30th cruise, our 5th on Eclipse and the 3rd time we had done a Baltic cruise on Eclipse. It was only the 2nd time we had cruised since my wife was diagnosed with Gluten Axtaxia (1st in April on Ovation of the Seas was poor re gluten free food in MDR)

We chose Aqua Class to eat in the Blu restaurant so more care re food.

Cabin 1549 had a very obstructed view with a large overhang with flaking paint. Cabin was quite dirty in places, ball of chewing gum and glass splinter on carpet and dust on some surfaces. Work tops had sticky marks which were NOT cleaned even after we complained and broken shower was not repaired. Blu restaurant could only offer 2 GF cereals chocolate stars and honey nut loops (okay if you are under 10) We brought our own which caused comments from staff and guests. We were allocated 1 waiter to serve us so service took a bit longer.

Poached eggs were either hard or under cooked when my wife complained waiter stood over her and waited till she checked each one. We had to book our evening meal the night before but had NO choice of desert we were told one would be made specially for us.

The previous cruise had norovirus so the 1st week staff in buffet served the food, took longer and buffet was full to bursting. My wife was given gluten, we suspect by staff using same tongs to serve gf and non gf food. Twice we had to point this out to supervisors.

Entertainment was poor same tired comedians same tired jokes, same magician Talented singers and dancers but bizarre shows. Highlights were Stars of Russia and Ukeboxe.

On final night waiter in Blu berated us for 10 minutes when my wife pointed out that the pudding was curdled. He said we had been given special treatment as my wife was "the only coeliac on the ship!" and kept asking what we were going to say in the guest survey.

Ship looked tired with grubby worn chairs and holes in carpets- so disappointing after our previous cruises and several guests agreed with us.
