Cruise was nice - Wait staff left something to be desired (especially breakfast)
Our MAIN problem was it seemed once the waiters brought your food they acted like you didn't exist any more. If you needed drink refills; more bread; or basically anything... you were out of luck... We started to deduct tips for poor service and now wish we would of.
Our cabin stewards were excellent; Once we told them what we needed daily; they always had it there for us without having to ask twice.
Cabin was very nice; and the BED was wonderful. Usually after a few days at sea my back starts to hurt because of the bed; but this bed was comfy and laid really well
Ship was late getting into port - by the time we arrived it was almost dark already - we got to see NOTHING; and was a big disappointment
You can purchase a bus ride for about $25 round trip to Mendenhall Glacier. This is a must see. (or you can take the city bus for $2 each; but it drops you off about 3/4 of a mile from where the other bus drops you off)
I talked to several people who went on whale watching excursions, and they were disappointed. The company "guaranteed" you would see whales or get a refund - They said they saw some but they were so far away they couldn't even tell what they were. Most folks said they had better whale watching experiences from the ship we were on.
Everything was close to the ship. They took you from the ship and dropped you off in town. a lot of historical stuff; and the national park had a nice tour of the Totem poles. also visit the Raptor Center.
You don't need to spend money of shore excursions at Ketchican - Most everything you can do on your own. You are there a short time; and there's not a whole lot to see. If you go in the FALL make sure to go up "Creek Street" and watch the salmon climb the salmon ladder.
