Just back from the HOTS. What an amazing ship. First impressions are its quite a monstrosity but a good one! To start with - this ship is absolutely ready to sail now- everything was open and working and all areas were finished. Occasionally saw a worker with a paintbrush but that was about it.
EMBARKATION. Arrived at the port early at about 11.15 and they were letting people on. We were on the ship by 11.30. Excellent start.
CABINS. We had a balcony cabin on deck 9. They are massive cabins and are far the biggest we have stayed in. The balcony had two chairs, a footstool and a table. The cabin had loads of storage including two wardrobes and lots of drawers. The safe is very small and did not even fit our iPad in (may have if no case but still would have been a squeeze). Bed was very comfy but had tiny bedside tables and one was taken up with the phone which I hate, so that was quickly put on the floor for the week! Bathroom was large and had a good shower, sink was small but ok. Had a sofa, dressing table area with a small chair with needed to have a higher back to it as could not lean back.
Good location. Near front of ship, only a few cabins from the elevator. Very quiet. Had the bed nearer the window, which we prefer.
Walked to Cala major which is the nearest beach. About 30 to 40 minutes walk from the port, up a big hill in 30 plus heat but was worth it.
Stayed here prior to the cruise and did all the sights on our own, had an excellent time.
Booked Vatican tickets in advance but rushed to get there as ship was late into port (through no fault on their own). Been to Rome before and did not particularly like it then, and the same goes this time. Beautiful buildings but very dirty, hot and busy city.
Got on the local ferry to Porto venere. Lovely little village with the colourful houses. Only €10 each.
Nipped into Naples itself and was pleasantly surprised. Beautiful buildings, quirky sides trees and some good shops. Crazy place through and mad drivers !
