I have always wanted to go on a cruise and went on NCLs Jade in April of 2015.Enjoyed it so much but a week was not long enough,so we decided to go on the Norwegian Spirit for the transatlantic from Barcelona to Cape Canaveral starting 5th nov..We were pretty worried about the weather ,but it was a really smooth sailing from day one.

The ship is small compared to the newer ones but we were happy with all the amenities.Food was great...too much at times.

Ports of call Madeira,St John'n,St Kitts,St Martins and St Thomas ..wow all fantastic.

Reasonable...nothing to rave about but nothing to moan about either.Needs a little TLC.

Port Reviews

Barcelona

We stayed in Barcelona for 3 nights before embarkation. We went around all the back streets. We found a lot of places served seafood which we don't like.Overall pretty average.Did all the sightseeing trips and used the underground trains which were cheap.

Madeira (Funchal)

Loved Madeira. As soon as we approached we were met by dolphins swimming alongside which was lovely.

Once we left the ship there was a car hire guy renting little two seater Renault Twizzys ...so much fun.We hired one for around 40 euro and set off for the mountains.had a fun couple of hours and came back to the ship.Had lunch then set of by foot to explore the shops and cafes nearby.

Antigua

As usual we did our own thing and once off the ship picked one of the reasonably priced trips. We went to Jolly beach for a few hours and just enjoyed relaxing on the sand and soaking up the sun and stunning views. We went for a drink and snack at the beach bar and beautiful birds were sitting on our table with us...I loved seeing all the different types of birds and other wildlife.

St. Kitts (Port Zante)

Took a trip from outside the ship...The rum bus..Charlito was our driver and he was great..We went to an old sugar plantation and saw the place where the two oceans meet.At every stop he would get out a big bottle of rum and a mango concoction (lush) and we would savor the sights and the ice cold drink until we moved on to the next stop.I can not remember much after the first two stops as the rum was pretty potent...needless to say a great time was had by all :)

St. Maarten

I wanted to go to Maho beach to see the planes land so we got a minibus for $8 p/p each way.The beach was tiny but the planes roaring overhead was pretty dramatic.Sunset beach bar was great.Lively and fun.Well worth a visit..Once back at the ship we just wandered around buying trinkets and enjoying the vibe.

St. Thomas

Took a minibus to Megans bay.Had a relaxing day on the beach and had a great time.

Port Canaveral (Orlando)

Disembarked and stayed in Cocoa beach for 3 nights which was nice.Went looking for Manatees which we did not get to see...oh well its an excuse to come back again Saw wild dolphins in the lagoon, ate at a diner and went to Ron.s surf shop.and took a lovely walk on the beach to the pier.
