It was on my husband's bucket list to go to Alaska, but never on mine. I was looking forward to seeing the scenery Alaska had to offer but really didn't expect to enjoy the trip that much. I was SO wrong. We are from Oklahoma so we flew to Seattle for embarkation. Our flights were almost effortless with the exception of an Oklahoma storm delaying us a bit. We were late getting into Seattle so we didn't get to enjoy much of the city and I do regret that. We chose to save some money and stay in a hotel by the airport and shuttle to the port. Perhaps if I had it to do again, I would stay in downtown Seattle to enjoy the beautiful buildings and see some sites. Our shuttle was $40 for the two of us and was a comfortable trip with interesting narration along the way. Arrival at the pier was easy, porters were waiting to take our luggage and we got inside very quickly. We didn't opt for FTTF (we are next time) so it took us about 30 minutes to board, still not bad. Everyone was so nice all along the way so we didn't mind at all. We boarded the ship, got a drink and went to our balcony cabin right away. We spend a few minutes watching others board and seeing all the supplies going onboard then went for lunch on the Lido. The food on the Lido was typical. Some days we really enjoyed it, other days not so much. One difference in an Alaskan cruise versus a Caribbean cruise is obviously the weather so people are inside A LOT. This makes it difficult to find a table to eat. Lots of folks were using the Lido tables just to sit and look out the window or play cards and dominoes. On our next cruise, we will utilize the brunch more often and enjoy the sit down dining and table service. The Legend was much smaller than our previous cruise ship and it only took us a few hours to travel end to end and see it all. It's a beautiful ship with plenty to do....it's just more compact than we'd experienced before. I also noticed much more motion on this ship than my previous cruise on the Dream and I'm guessing that's due to the size. The Playlist shows were not what we'd hoped for. I hate to criticize but we both felt they appeared cheap and cheesy. The performers were wonderful singers but the dancing was similar to a cheer squad in my opinion. We went the first night and then only tried once more and were again disappointed. We did enjoy Andy and Cody who sang acoustically with their guitars around the ship. They were great and so fun and friendly. As far as activities onboard we played Bingo once...didn't win and watched an ice sculpting being done and some dance lessons given. We did excursions at every port with the exception of Victoria. We got docked there late and it was taking so long to get off the ship that we opted to just stay onboard and visit the Red Frog Pub and have drinks and enjoy the music and dancing. We went gold panning and to a salmon bake in Junuea which was unexpectedly fun!! In Skagway we took the train up to White Summit Pass, which was not very fun but did allow some pretty views. We did our souvenier shopping in Skagway. Our favorite port by far was Ketchikan! So quaint and everyone was so friendly. It felt old and peaceful and so beautiful! Our excursion there was the Lighthouse, Eagles and Totems and they were fantastic. The boat and crew were great. I'd highly recommend it. The only complaints I can give about the ship was that the pools were closed a lot. Some days they were up and heated and had lots of people but other days there was net over them and they were closed. They were closed on our last sea day and if I'd been traveling with children I would have been very upset about that. Our service onboard was perfect. Our cabin steward and wait staff were always right on. I didn't mention Glacier Bay!! It was magnificent!! If you can cruise thru that national park, do it! Park rangers boarded our ship at the entrance of the bay and guided us all the way through with great commentary. This cruise was very exciting because everyone was always on the hunt for whales and sea life. The naturalist onboard would announce sightings so you didn't miss out on anything. I'd say at least 50 percent of the time when we walked out onto our balcony we saw whales. On this trip we saw whales, otters, sea lions, brown bear, black bear and eagles. I think everyone should visit Alaska this way, on sea and shore and I'd not hesitate to go again.

Cabin 8D

Our cabin was absolutely perfect. It was midship and close to the elevator. We could see down into the atrium to see what entertainment was going on any time or be at the Lido deck in 30 seconds.
