Been on several Thomson cruises over the past 12 years, and generally think they are superb value etc. (other than one we did on the Island Escape). This cruise however was a bit disappointing. The cabins are small (we were on deck 6) but we are fairly used to that. The shower was extremely small and water constantly flowed past the tiny lip into the main toilet. There was also mould in various places on the silicon. Needed a good clean. We ate in the seven seasons for breakfast and dinner and did not care for some of the people we were forced to share with. (We even saw somebody enter the waiter only service area, allegedly smart casual, wearing shorts and a vest. Admittedly we didn't see a recurrence of that etiquette thankfully). Eventually managing to secure table for 2 seating at dinner the second part of the week. The portions and choices have become fewer than previous Thomson cruises. The range also being somewhat limited. The main entertainment was fairly good and professional. For some reason 2 of the acts that were in separate bars were both singer guitarists, who both played the same "slash your wrists" music. other than that, there were a couple of small bands who were more entertaining. We were on an all inclusive package but often elected to pay the supplements for the better products. As an example the base gin and vodka was described in the bar tariff as Gordons and Smirnoff. Invariably if you didn't ask for it, you received some unknown named product. The wine by the glass was served in tiny glasses, but if you were prepared to pester the wine waiters you could manage to get 3 small glasses during dinner. Smoking was meant to be restricted to a couple of small locations, which meant that an entire side of the promenade deck was given up to them and an entire side of the deck 10 pool area. The "punters" in these areas seemed to be in groups of 6 to 8 people who were unable to speak to each other, constantly shouting. I felt uncomfortable in these environments, something that never used to be an issue. I guess Thomson have decided to cater for a different mass market element than they used to. We did generally enjoy the cruise, but wonder whether we will go with Thomson again if it is their intention to lower their standards further. Perhaps just a feature that has developed on the Majesty.
