Embarkation: We flew into Ft. Lauderdale the morning of the cruise and took a taxi directly to the Port. Do not pay for cruise line sponsored transportation in Ft. Lauderdale. The port is very close to the airport and it is much cheaper to take a taxi.

We had priority check-in, so the check-in process went quickly. I will say that this terminal did not have a priority lounge which I heard people complaining about, but I was there to get on a cruise not sit in a lounge!

The Ship: The ship is typical Carnival. Bright colors and fabrics that remind one of the Vegas strip. All of the venues were clean and well-maintained. This ship has no Serenity area (adults only). I love laying in that area because it is quiet (no kids!!) and the lounges have cushions. This was a huge disappointment as I thought all Carnival ships had this area. The aft pool and hot tubs are adults only, but it is very noisy back there with the bar and pizza pirate (especially if they have the cover closed). Not serene at all.

Cabin Review

Ocean Suite

Cabin OS

The room was a little larger than a typical balcony room, but very similar. It did have tons of storage and I loved having double sinks and a tub. I’m not sure that it is worth the extra cost and I don’t spend much time in the room, but it was fun to try a different cabin type. I will say that the cabin was very far forward so it was quite a walk to almost anything. I would definitely try to book a cabin mid-ship.

Port Reviews

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

I love embarking in Ft. Lauderdale because the airport is so close to the port.

Half Moon Cay

We rented a cabana which had an ac unit, fans, cushioned loungers, table and chairs, sodas and water, fruit and veggie trays, snorkel equipment, and pool floats. It was worth every penny and I highly recommend it. There aren’t many and they do sell out quick, so book early.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

Since Amber Cove has so much to do in the port area, we decided not to book an excursion. There is a huge pool, water slides, zip lines, shopping, and a restaurant. We started the day shopping and then found a couple of lounge chairs where we spent the rest of the day. The food in the restaurant is a little pricy but it is the only option unless you want to leave the port area. Note: there isn’t a beach in the port area. If you are looking for a beach day, you will have to book an excursion. I loved Amber Cove and am definitely looking forward to visiting again.

Grand Turk

I have been to Grand Turk a few times and it is usually one of my favorite ports. Unfortunately, the Carnival Magic was also docked in Grand Turk that day, so the port was very crowded. It was impossible to find any beach chairs or chairs by the pool. Looks like everyone stayed in the port area. People were shoulder to shoulder in the ocean and the pool. It really ruined the day for us. We got back on the ship early just to get away from the crowd. This is a great port with lots to do as long as you are the only ship there.
