This was the 5th cruise that me and my wife have been on and our 4th with RCL. Having never been on an Oasis class ship, we were keen to try it out and also were looking forward to being on a brand new ship. FIRST THINGS FIRST.....PLEASE ignore all previous reviews stating ship was floating building site. It is well and truly completed now. Still has a few problems, but will elaborate on those later. CHECK IN- A breeze...went into port, was greeted by an RCL team member, who went thru usual questions about being sick recently.. etc and that was it!! Did it all on his tablet standing up!! Then straight on the boat!! THE SHIP- What is there to say?? It's MAHOOSIVE!!!! Biggest ship we had been on was LIBERTY and this is much bigger. As well as the promenade, you have Central Park and The Boardwalk. Takes a bit of getting used to, even if you're a seasoned RCL cruiser. THE CABIN- Got free upgrade from inside to Superior Ocean view with balcony!! Very happy bunnies!! Loved the extra room, balcony was lovely with our tea at the end of the evening and ondemand movies were free!! Very handy when arrived at Civitaveccia in the middle of a thunder storm!! FOOD- Usual RCL fare. Slightly disappointing to be honest. Why are there no veggie hot dogs in dog house? Windjammer usual noisy cattle market. Solarium restaurant nice, but always same food. Same goes for Mini bites. Tried Jamie's Italian on last night. Our server Ivana was lovely, but food a disappointment. Not as good as Giovanni's Table, which it replaced. Main dining room nice, (big mention to Idewa!!) but experience not helped by ignorant Asian guests, who felt they could just waltz in and steal a table without a reservation!! Hello....???. There was a queue for a reason!! ENTERTAINMENT- Ice and Aqua show superb. Condensed version of 'Grease' good fun. American comic Jim David was hysterical. Usual other RCL activities, but disappointingly, no movies shown. Except when 'The Force Awakens' was shown in main theatre during afore-mentioned thunder storm OUTSIDE - Zip line was fun, but make sure your shoes aren't loose or you WON'T get on. (Wear socks as well) Ultimate Abyss cool, but keep knees straight. Suffered nasty friction burn on first go, as was not given any instruction first time. (Naughty!!). But sadly, this ride was closed quite a lot, so was the best waterslide with the "plughole" exit. This was closed for whole cruise as was told needed repairs. Also, why were the pools and hot-tubs so frequently being closed due to needing so-called "maintenance" when the weather was glorious and you have 5,000+ guests?? Also, why put ping pong tables in enclosures, but leave a tiny gap at bottom for ball to get out?? Kinda defeats object!! TECH- Biggest bugbear. Tablets all over ship for making reservations were constantly offline!! Ordered a wake-up call on telephone which never happened. On demand movie kept freezing, saying "impossible to watch whilst PA was making announcement"...which it never was!! Had to phone guest services 3 times for them to sort it out. There were other things too. This ship has a lot of cool gadgets...when they work!! SERVICE- when all is said and done, MOST of the RCL staff are fantastic as always. The idiots you see on these ships giving them such a hard time...I couldn't keep my cool!! EXCURSIONS- Been to Rome already, so did Mt Vesuvius/Pompeil tour in Naples....and was sorely disappointed. Very quick review...coach was disgusting, (complete with chewing gum blobs on the back headrest). Cameo factory tour complete waste of time...no one bought anything, just feigned interest. Mount Vesuvius pretty cool, just don't expect Blofeld type volcano...looked pretty much like a quarry to me. And as for Pompeil...well ...(and this is just my opinion)...I think they've ruined it by putting on fake street names and numbers, just like you get on a god-awful suburban terrace. Why couldn't they have just left it as discovered? Did The Louvre feel the need to paint a Starbucks behind the Mona Lisa? Then there are the unnecessary "distressed" fake statues scattered around the site and we had the added bonus of seeing some lovely hairy Italian buliders crack thrown in for good measure!! OVERALL- A staggering technical masterpiece, but still suffering a few gripes. If you are an RCL fan, what is not to like? Personally, my wife and I having done 5 consecutive cruises now, will probably try something different for a couple of years as it is all starting to get a bit samey. Besides, after this ship, what can top it? Hope you enjoy review. Tried to give honest opinion
