I have wanted to go on a safari for a long time but my wife was hesitant. We chose this trip because it was fully guided and we have sailed with AMA previously. This did not disappoint us and my wife loved each and every day of the trip. We started in Cape Town and could not have had a better hotel than the Cape Grace arranged by AMA. It is right in the middle of all there is to do in Cape Town and if you want to go away from this area for dinner they will take you and then pick you up. Every member of the staff is excellent, the room was very nice, and the location is perfect. The AMA tours form the hotel were also great - we went to Table Mountain, The Cape of Good Hope, and wine tasting.
A plane rife took us to Kasone and the Chobe River where we picked up the Zambez Queen. Getting there is half the fun trying to navigate the immigration checkpoints for Botswana and Namibia. Once we arrived at the boat we were treated b the staff and managers, rested for a little bit, then took our first river safari. We all thought our first glimpses of hippos and elephants were good but we had no idea what the next day would bring. Another River safari the next morning got us up close and personal with hippos, crocs, elephants, Eagles, and more. Each River safari was excellent and we saw more game than we expected. A day long land safari took us to a pride of 11lions who had just killed a water buffalo. We got within 40 feet while the were eating. All four days on the boat were great. The guides did a wonderful job of tracking down game and were very cautious not to get too close. The managers and staff of the boat are to be commended for the food, the atmosphere, and all of the surprises they have in store for you.
Victoria Falls and the Victoria Falls Hotel were next and very enjoyable. Th hotel takes you back 100 years and let your mind wander back in time.
Hotel rooms were all exceedingly good. The Zambezi Queen rooms are good for a houseboat.
