We completed a Viking River Cruise on the VAR in 2013 from Amsterdam to Budapest and enjoyed it so much, we almost immediately booked an ocean cruise on what was to become the Viking Star. Our fare was paid, probably before the keel was laid! We have just completed our Baltic cruise and it was worth the wait. The ship is beautiful, the staff attentive, the service excellent, the meals were invariably great. All in all, we had a wonderful time.

Our cabin was on deck 3 (3021), and was extremely well appointed. Of particular note is the bathroom, which is almost spacious for a cruise.(I can compare with the Azamara Quest with its tiny bathroom/shower facility) . Storage space is adequate, although I believe the layout on their longships provides more shelf and/or drawer space. Each cabin has a balcony, just large enough for a table and two chairs. Given that we were cruising the Baltic in May it was not exactly warm enough to sit out, but we did go out to the balcony for some views we really wanted to see. Of particular note in the cabin is the online interactive TV system that permits you to view your on board account and itinerary at any time. This is a great feature.

The service and the food in all restaurants were excellent. We ate most of our dinners in THE RESTAURANT with a couple of meals in MANFREDI'S and one at the CHEF'S TABLE. All were excellent. The steak at MANFREDI'S is worth the price of the cruise on its own! The food at the buffet was consistently good and sufficiently varied that we were never bored. One thing about the menu in the Restaurant is that it has one section that is the same every day, with another portion that lists a short menu of local foods, depending upon where you are travelling, then yet another section that changes daily. The beauty of all this, is that you can choose from any of the above sections, as you please.
