We (My wife and I) thought we were getting a great deal to sail on a new ship. Just goes to show you get what you pay for. I'll begin with the good points which are few. The Norwegian Ship the Escape is a huge beautiful ship. She has the capacity for over 4200 passengers. The staterooms are kept spotlessly clean. The crew (except for the Disney Cruise Line) are the friendliest, most helpful we have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Unfortunately I can not say the same about the cruise itself and its activities. As I said she can accommodate over 4200 passengers and our cruise was a total booking. The staterooms while clean, are claustrophobic. They're very small and we found it difficult to stay out of each others way. Don't expect to get anywhere near the pool or lounge chairs. The pool is small and was overcrowded every day. The surrounding lounge chairs, which cover two decks, are impossible to find empty. The ships rule of not saving the lounge chairs evidently are not enforced. That is just part of the problem. Each day at sea there are "D.J." lead activities which border on obscene. If you have ever watched the Spring Break T.V. shows, that is what we had to endure. The worse was the Sexy leg contest that ended with some contestants showing their "Junk" as the D.J. put it. It is definitely not for children of which there were many on board. The children's pool area was just a few feet away in full view of the kids. Even if it wasn't, the D.J. was loud enough to be heard several decks below and he would encourage the inappropriate activities. As if that wasn't bad enough, NCL allows 18 year olds to consume wine and beer as long as they produced a note from their parents. We were constantly dodging traffic cones and yellow caution tape that were used to block off puddles of vomit on deck. A lovely site and aroma in the 90 degree heat. Sort of made you glad not to find a lounge chair. The "Price included" restaurants were very nice and comfortable. But they all served the same menu each night. There is no variety unless you dine at one of the "for a fee" restaurants which we did a few nights. I highly recommend Food Republic. They were very reasonable and had a large variety from burgers to sushi. The low points of this cruise out weighed any high points and we will never sail NCL again. Like I said, you get what you pay for.

Clean but very small. Thank goodness for the balcony.

Port Reviews

Tortola

We weren't at port long enough so we did not purchase an excursion for this port.
