Chose this cruise first because of the itinerary. We wanted to go from Amsterdam to Budapest. There are lots of choices of river cruise lines on this route and Viking is the biggest. I did a lot of comparisons, cabin size, gratuity policy, cost and read reviews. Took a chance on a fairly new company, but was not disappointed. There were mostly Australians, with a few Canadians, some from the UK and a few Americans. The group was very lively and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The cruise director is amazingly knowledgeable of history, local customs etc etc. The cruise was flawless, no low or high water problems, each stop on time and the weather was great except for a few rainy days. The included tours were all good, and if you wanted you could just go off on your own.At some of the stops, there was a lot of walking on cobblestones, which I could see was a problem for some people. Even though people are told of this ahead, it hard to imagine what its like until you do it for several hours. There are optional extra tours that you have to pay for, but there is no pressure to do so, The only "complaint" (and this has nothing to do with Emerald) is that at some of the stops, there are several ships--Viking, Tauck especially, so the little towns can get a bit crowded with groups all going to the same places. Entertainment is limited (compared to the mega cruise ships) and the lounge area gets a bit loud when its full. The food is good, plenty of choices and nicely presented.

Cabin Review

Cabin 338
Cabin is well designed to make use of a small amount of space. There is no balcony, but an extension of the room, with chairs and a big window that opens if you want to.
