We stayed overnight in the Sheraton San Juan. This was very comfortable and central however being from the UK we are used to breakfast being part of most hotel experiences. We were very embarrassed to be tracked down in the hotel foyer by an irate head waiter who suggested we had tried to leave without paying ... embarrassing and costly but genuine mistake!
Thereafter things got much better we set off to the ship and embarked with no difficulty.
Accommodation... We were very pleased with our Concierge Cabin although it wasn't as opulent as the UK brochure depicted, it was very nice and we were very well looked after by the Concierge 'Vittel' and his team. We had breakfast on the balcony delivered every morning and prepared to perfection (smoothies to die for) and we loved having the door open at night and lying listening to the sea as we drifted off to sleep. Having only been on one cruise before , we really appreciated the sound of only waves and were pleasantly surprised not to hear the engine noises at all, it was incredible.
When we left the comfort of our room we really appreciated the ship: Fairly new to cruising with not a lot to compare with but the ship was beautiful.
Food .. We loved it and we both know a good restaurant when we see one! Breakfast in the room was without exaggeration the nicest hotel breakfast ever. We were in port most days so we didn't really use the buffet areas much but when we did it was fabulous. The stir fry's, Sushi, nibbles, ( chips/fry's by the pool) were all good.
We loved the Pina Colada's from the Waterfront brought by a smiling Damien each evening as we watched the sunset. In the main restaurant we were looked after by Alkan and his team. The food was fabulous, it was varied, well presented and tasty.
The 'pièce de rEsistance' was the Normandie ... Is it worth it ... absolutely fabulous!
Entertainment ...We had late dinner at a table for 6-8 and our dinner companions became the best entertainment on the ship. We were so very lucky to meet people we would choose to enjoy a meal with. We therefore had all the entertainment we needed which meant we didn't seek out much of the ship entertainment but once again we found some exceptional talent. We went to two of the theatre shows and they were extremely professional, the dancers, especially katy, were fabulous. The rendition of 'Les Miserable' was like watching the real thing in London's west end ... excellent. Our favorite entertainment on ship though was Elk Island in the Rendezvous they are extremely talented and just to sit and listen to them after a long day was soothing and just fabulous.
We tried Revelations, but by midnight it's empty so not the ship for those looking to party all night but with so much to do during the day who would want to ... this didn't stop us from venturing onto the dance floor once or twice though .. although so beware as I had a couple of embarrassing falls due to unmarked steps!!
Overall a fabulous cruise and I would be wary of going with a different company now as my expectations would be so high.
Great position, no noise at all, would have liked it to be more like the pictures on the UK website but it was still nice. Port side was good for sail away.
A few people we met were upgraded to CC, I was happy for them but how do they choose??
Excellent start to the cruise.
After three flights from the UK we needed to chill .. fabulous river taxi to the beach / shops etc, really nice and excellent value on duty free. Fabulous Pina Colada in Holland Hotel and back to the ship. Welcomed back with cool towels and water or juice, excellent!
A fabulous day thanks to Levi and Bumpingtours! We joined the tour at short notice and were welcomed by Levi and the team. Levi was our guide for the day and he made it fabulous for us. He was knowledgable, funny, interesting and an overall really nice guy.
He took us to Titou Gorge where we swam up to a waterfall, he helped everyone to participate, even non swimmers, and made this a really special experience. He then took us to a number of view points to show us the island. He took us to Trafalgar Falls and walked with us to the Emerald pools and beyond. I found myself sitting in a warm spa pool in the rocks with the sunshine shimmering through the trees and the Iguana on the hillside .. it was one of life's wonderful moments. However, the best was yet to come as we decided to have lunch while at the falls, the tour guides and taxi drivers were so friendly and entertained us with a warm friendly sense of humour ... for me the best part of the day was when Martin got his guitar and sang to me.. again magical ( ok so he probably does this to someone every day but when its your day its magical)!!! back to the ship and another lovely evening.
Magazine beach ..... great ... more later!
Very disappointed but I think it was the choice of beach which was the problem ....
The Boatyard is not for the mature individual with discerning taste .... its for young lively people which is why the ship crew all go along ... not all bad ... loud music, girls in bikini's dancing on the bar .... shots from on top of the bar, ropes off the pier, trampolines in the water a bit like the busy beaches in spain which is not what we wanted but like I say not all bad and the food was fabulous... as was the water for swimming ... but not the picture postcard of the Caribbean for me!!
