  3. Sun Princess
We chose this cruise to visit the top end of Australia. We were saddened to get an email before we left saying that the ship was unable to travel at full speed and they had to drop Yorkeys Knob off the list of ports. A lot of people boarded the ship without having been told that info so they were extremely disappointed. The ship was travelling perfectly well and everyone on board thought this was just an excuse - not good enough Princess. Boarding the ship was even difficult, we were given a group number but then they decided they would board by decks, then back to numbers again?? We've travelled on several other shipping lines and the Princess shore excursions would have to be the most expensive by far. They are ridiculously priced and nobody can afford them. Getting off at Geraldton - the tender operators seemed to be very inexperienced and let the tenders keep bashing into the ship, a lot of people ended up with jarred necks. Broome was an absolute disaster - it took us 2 hours to get off the ship onto a bus. Yes one lane of the jetty was closed but it could have been organised much better, Most of the time there were 3 empty coaches sitting down at the end of the pier. shame on you Princess. We gave up and didn't get off the ship and this is one port we wanted to see! Everything Princess organised went wrong. We booked a shuttle to the airport after the cruise but it failed to arrive. We got crammed into another bus and left about 15 minutes late. And this shuttle was expensive compared to P+O. Princess Air failed to tell us that Qantas had changed our flight time from Sydney to Brisbane which meant we would have missed out connecting flight home to our regional city. Luckily Qantas found us 2 seats on an earlier flight. I was very annoyed that I paid the second highest price for a BA balcony cabin - C615. Avoid this cabin at all costs - it sits right on top of the tender arm, which badly needs some grease and maintenance. When we arrived in Geraldton and they started putting out tenders we were woken at 7:30 by what sounded like a jack hammer being used in the cabin next door. Not only did we get woken early but they decided to practice lowering and raising the tenders all day - which meant we had to put up with the racket all day, not good enough for a high priced cabin! In our cabin we couldn't turn on the bedside lamps, we did the first night and then couldn't turn them off, so avoided using them after that. A simple fix Princess! The lifts were out of order a lot of the time as was the laundromat on our deck. The only thing we enjoyed was the food in the main dining room. My husband normally enjoys Trivia but didn't on this ship, the questions were ridiculously hard and not relevant to Australia. It is supposed to be light hearted entertainment. Apart from that there was a very little to do on board. Most of the poker machines were off line in the Casino. The lecturer who have talks on the ports being visited was Italian and although lovely very hard to understand. I didn't see the Captain the whole cruise, even at the past passengers gathering. We were on Sun Princess in 2011 and were sad to see they've removed the pizzeria to put in a Japanese restaurant. It seems a waste when most nights it just sat there empty or with only one persons there. Bring back the pizza place please. Be aware that on this trip Princess has chosen to have people getting on and off at varying stages. We had a few hundred people get off in Darwin and new ones get on. Then in Brisbane we had 800 get off and new ones get on. For me it spoilt the experience a bit, normally you cruise with the same group from start to finish but on this trip it was continually changing. Sun Princess very badly needs a massive refit, Princess please don't leave it any longer, it needs to happen now, or perhaps you could drop the price of fares by half to travel on a second rate ship.

Sun Princess is tired and broken and should be replaced now.

Cabin Review

Balcony
Cabin BA C615
Stay away from this cabin unless you like being woken up at every tender port. The arm for the tenders is directly under this cabin and sounds like a jack hammer that goes on for hours. They should not charge full price for this cabin. Apart from that it is the usual small bathroom, small balcony combo with a lot of things not working.
