Based on a number of reviews, I was concerned about how we'd like travelling across the Atlantic on the Brilliance of the Seas. I'm happy to report that it was a wonderful cruise.
Getting on the ship in Tampa was a breeze, and our room was ready by 1pm.
There's no doubt that RCI has much bigger and newer ships. However, the Brilliance of the Seas is no slouch by any stretch of the imagination. Yes, one can nitpick about some of the areas needing repair or looking their age. But the vast majority of the ship looks as nice as any cruise ship I've been on in the past. And its size of 2,200 passengers or so made it pretty much the perfect sized ship for me.
The cabin was nice. It may not have been as big as some other cruise line's rooms, but it never seemed small. There were many places to store items and belongings.
Outlets closed to the bed would be nice. We brought some adapters so we could use the 220v plugs with our electronics, which doubled the number of outlets in our room from 2 to 4. Between that and power strips, charging our electronics was a piece of cake.
The balcony was really nice. The view was also really nice. Some may not like the protruding bridge when looking to the front of the ship from the balcony, but I thought it was kind of neat. It wasn't that close to the room anyway, and most of the time we were looking straight out to the ocean.
Bathroom was small but functional. Water pressure in the shower was surprisingly good. Toilet clogged twice, but was fixed with a quick phone call.
