We chose this cruise because it included the ports of call of many of the Rhine and Danube cruises in a single cruise. We chose AMA Waterways because we had cruised with them before in Russia and the Netherlands and were very happy. The Magnificent Europe Cruise meet all of our expectations. The ship was immaculate and the crew was very friendly and responsive to the needs of the passengers. While on the cruise we encountered a minor bout of Norovirus and the crew was prompt to address the issue. The ports of call were as we expected, but after 14 days you get a little tired of castles and churches. There were half cruising days spread throughout the cruise which gave us a break from the daily tours. In almost all cases we were located close to the city centers and were able to tour some of the cities on our own. There is a lot of walking and cobblestones involved in many of these Medieval cities so bring good walking shoes along. The Cruise Director offered more than one option at every port. Gentle, Regular and Active tours were offered so that everyone felt that they had an option that they could use. The food on board was as expected. It was good and the quantity offered was great, but as expected the chef has to limit the amount of spice to meet the taste of the majority of passengers. The menu included a fish, meat and vegetarian entre at lunch and dinner. The wine offered on the cruise was superb focusing on the regions that we toured through. With only 150 passengers on the cruise we found that the crew knew our likes and dislikes within a couple of days. It's great to walk in for breakfast and have the waiter serve you Hot Earl Grey without you even asking. The only issue on the cruise was a group of 12 that did not speak English. The first couple of days they tended to disrupt the tours, but the Cruise Director assigned them to their own group so that they did not slow down the English speaking groups. I do not think that this is something that all cruise companies do.
