My husband and I are retired, live in New York, and take this cruise back-to-back annually. On the first segment, we sail with friends; and on the second segment, we sail alone. Although we have a suite for the entire voyage, we always join our friends for dinner each evening in Cosmopolitan Restaurant. This had previously been arranged by the Michael's Club Concierge; however, on this occasion, it was arranged by the Shore-side Concierge. I wish that had been easier, but I was never notified that such a person existed. After being informed that such a person did exist, it was difficult to reach her. Messages were left, and calls were not returned. Finally, I was connected to someone who services a different ship, who was helpful until I was finally able to deal with the person in charge of the Summit. Hopefully, next year's arrangements will go better. We are booked next year for the same back-to-back cruises in the same room.

Embarkation was almost flawless, and we were on the ship shortly after arriving at the pier. The only "flaw" was the fact that I managed to lose my wallet exiting the car in front of the terminal. Yes, quite a flaw. While inside the terminal mourning the loss, I heard my name paged. Someone in Security returned the wallet with everything in tact. With that very large problem solved, we boarded the ship and headed for embarkation lunch in Luminae. After a wonderful meal, we went to our stateroom, which is one we've sailed in before. I love the room but was sad that it is being somewhat neglected. The marble on the tub was loosely held on by tape, and the sleeper sofa had seen better days. Still, we enjoyed staying in the room, which was promptly kept clean each day by our wonderful stateroom attendant and his able assistant. Our butler, Nilesh, was just wonderful, and we were very well taken care of on our cruise.

The food in Cosmopolitan Restaurant was fine, but the service was not up to the standards I've experienced with Celebrity. Our waiter was somewhat strict about our arriving at 5:30 but was forced to relent upon seeing my dining assignment was scheduled for 5:45. Our original reservation was supposed to be for 6:00, and our friends had been told they could arrive at 6:00. Our waiter was quite insistent that we arrive at an earlier time and proceeded to lecture us about this. It didn't ruin our trip, but this happened on two occasions. Again, not what I've previously experienced on Celebrity. After the first segment, my husband and I were happy to move over to Luminae, which was just perfection in every way. Some of the staff from last year was there, and we were always made to feel like family. We loved the food and the service, and Gozde, the manager, and Dominic, our waiter (we met both of them last year) were part of a team of many who made our meals there very special indeed. Bojan, who served us breakfast on the first segment and also remembered us from last year, added to our enjoyment with his wonderful sense of humor. Our turnaround lunch was eaten at Bistro on Five, and the food and service there were both very good. We also had two dinners at Tuscan Grille. The food and service there were excellent, but I must say I miss Normandie.

Cabin Review

Celebrity Suite

Cabin CS

The cabin is lovely but somewhat neglected. The marble in the bathroom was loosely held on with tape, and the sofa has seen better days. There is a chair with a footstool that are truly comfortable, and I look forward to sitting there each time I cruise in a CS. The tub is difficult to climb into and out of, but we are ambulatory enough to make it work without too much trouble. We always request a tub mat, and this provides secure footing when making the transition. Normally, the balcony has a table and two chairs with footstools. We requested a lounger and ended up with two loungers along with the table, two chair, and two footstools. It was a bit crowded, but we managed. One of the cabinets in the dining area was too difficult to open, and one of the sliding doors in the dressing room did not fasten properly, causing the door to slam repeatedly when the seas weren't calm. I solved this by propping the dressing table seat against the door. I know the Penthouse Suites and Royal Suites were refurbished during dry dock. I am sorry the Celebrity Suites did not receive some attention during this time. That said, we will be staying in the same room next year. Hopefully, some attention will be paid to this lovely room. The window is wonderful, and the sitting room is beautiful and bright. It truly deserves some loving care.

Port Reviews

King's Wharf

We enjoy Bermuda and have been there many times. On this trip, we decided to spend quality time on board the Summit and only spent time walking around the port, which we enjoyed.

Bayonne (Cape Liberty)

Our review only refers to the terminal and the ease of boarding. We live in New York and did not spend any time in Bayonne other than driving through it.
