I chose Holland America because of the time of year and the itinerary. For the trip of a life time, my husband and I wanted to go to certain countries and cities. Holland America's Eurodam ship offered the 12-day Mediterranean Tapestry voyage and we selected to also purchase our airline tickets and pre embarkation hotel stay in Barcelona with the cruise company. All went well. For two nights we stayed at the Hotel Hesperia Presidente which is in downtown Barcelona (breakfast included). Because of booking through Holland America, we were allowed to check in upon our arrival from the US. That was wonderful.

We stayed two nights so we did have an opportunity to visit the beautiful city of Barcelona and witness the Saint George festival which according to tradition couples exchange gifts: a book for the men and a rose for the women. What a sight of waves of people walking through the squares- thousands and thousands- carrying roses and books.

Embarkation was so uneventful. We found our ship's public areas to be very pretty and interesting. Our Signature Suite number 6080 was lovely, large, and beyond our expectations. We understand that the Eurodam had undergone $30 million of renovations in December of 2015. Thank you, Holland America.

Barcelona

Probably the most beautiful large city I have ever seen. So much history. The old Gothic quarter is a must.
