Sail Date: Apr 2016

My hubby, 8 year old daughter, 12 year old son and I sailed on the Carnival Sunshine on April 24, 2016 for our 5 night cruise to their private island, nassau bahamas and Freeport Bahamas. It was NYC spring break. My background, I have sailed once with Carnival 9 years ago and we had such a horrible cruise on the Carnival sensation from scalding shower water, to clogging toilets and just a tacky boat that my first cruise and my first cruise with Carnival was horrific! We take 2 vacations a year, and we always plan way in advance because we have to fly to Orlando to take a cruise and we have to save for our vacations. We have cruised on Disney 4 times, Royal 2 times and NCL once.

Embarkation, we were told to get there through an email between 1-2pm and I know many ignore these emails but we did decide to get there after 1 and yet there was still crowds and still a 20 minute line to wait on until we could check in but thankfully it was inside and not in the hot sun. After checking in we walked on the boat and went straight to the Lido to grab some Guys burgers which are absolutely amazing!! Sad to say if Guys Burgers were not on this boat I would have taken off a star. The food was just not good at all. The buffet was small and although small just not good food. Even the 24 hour pizza was bland. Royal Carib and of course Disney has way better food!

My family and I actually liked the boat! Not too big and not too small. Many people review this boat and complain about this ship (Im an avid Cruise Critic reader before any cruise) and I dont agree with many of the reviews. Our oceanview room was fine for the 4 of us, I was disappointed because booking almost 10 months in advance I thought I would have a bunkbed, but instead had a pull out bed, and I was prepared to not have a refrigerator. Our room was clean and our attendant was nice, tried to say our names when he saw us but never really interacted, which was fine. Gave us ice everyday which we appreciated. Our toiled didnt flush for 10 hours and we simply got a "were sorry", we got over it.

Port Reviews

Half Moon Cay

One of the best beaches I have ever been to! The BBQ is set up for only 2 hours so make sure you dont miss it.

Nassau

Nassau is really nothing special, if we would have gotten off the boat we would have walked to Junkanoo beach.

Freeport

We took a van to Junkanoo Taino beach for $14 round trip and $3 entry fee which included wi-fi. The ocean water was beautiful and we paid less than half of what we would have spent on the boat. Make sure you leave early enough to catch the boat, its a 15 minute drive.
