We recently completed a seven night Caribbean cruise on the NCL Spirit. It was a wonderful trip! Leading up to the trip, we read negative reviews about the Spirit, but honestly our experience did not resemble the previous reviews. We have taken RCCL, Carnival, and Princess, as well as other NCL ships. This has been our best cruise to date! While the Spirit is the oldest and smallest in the fleet, you couldn't tell. The ship was originally built for the Asian market, so it has unique features not found in other ships.
The food was good in the complementary restaurants, never overcooked or undercooked. Try Shogun, the complementary Asian fusion restaurant! Highly recommend it! And formal breakfast beats the buffet breakfast hands down. We did not attend any of the speciality restaurants, so we do not have any feedback for that portion. We never had to wait or search for a table in the main dining rooms or at the buffet. One nice option is that the Spirit has two main dining rooms: one with a cruise/resort dress code and the other is completely casual (flip flops, shorts, etc). The food is the same. The "formal" dining room was only about one quarter filled. The alternative dining room was lively and hopping! It was so nice to get gourmet food, but not having to dress up!!
Customer service was incredible. When we first entered our cabin upon boarding, we noted a foul smell in the bathroom. We notified the customer service desk. They immediately had it taken care of. They followed up to ensure it was taken care of. That was great service as it was. But then to top it off, they sent us a bottle of wine and chocolate covered strawberries. So nice!
We had an inside cabin on Deck 11. It backed up to a staircase. Because of that, it was an abnormal shaped cabin. The dimensions may have been the same, but it felt larger than other cabins. It was great! The room was very quiet even though it was near the staircase and elevator. It was super easy to get to the dance club and to the pool. Perfect location!
Embarkation was super easy! Would certainly go out of this port again!
This has been one of our most favorite beach days to date on a cruise!! Often times, beach excursions are 3-4 hours in duration. This excursion provided you with up to 8 hours of beach time. Plenty of lounge chairs were available. We rented a clam shell that covers two lounge chairs for $20 for the day, as there is little natural shade. They provide a buffet, just like on the ship, with no additional cost. Warning, the sea gulls are aggressive, so make sure you protect your food while walking!! If you have an unlimited drinks package, it is honored on the beach as well. There are ample bars to get drinks! There are a few kiosks for shopping. You are not approached at all or pressured to buy anything. The water is crystal clear and beautiful!! You can observe fish and lobster swimming around without googles. If you walk past the first cove, and go to the second or third cove, it is much less populated and much more peaceful. Super relaxing day!
