This is our second ocean cruise with Viking Oceans and one on their river cruises ( China riverboat adventure) . The first ocean cruise was on the Viking Star on July 11 2015, in which we did the Viking Homelands with the extension to Iceland . That voyage was just beautiful and both the crew and ship out preformed our expectations .

Our second Ocean Cruise was even better that our first, if that could be ! We did the Catalonia to Constantinople (Istanbul to Barcelona) cruise starting on April 3,2016 with a pre cruise stay in Istanbul. I must say, we had no issues with any of the Istanbul stay and Viking's pick of the Conrad Hotel, was spot on. Beautiful Hotel and wonderful service. We had contracted with a private tour company thru our travel agent . Our local guide made us feel at home and very safe ! . I do believe that Istandbul, the folks and city, are getting a very bad rap. Go and enjoy your time there, it's a beautiful and vibrant city .

A special note - early April is their peak time for tulips and spring flowers and you shouldn't be missed .

Small Note : The tulips and other bulbs had their start in Turkey, not in Holland,

Back to tour cruise; we had a DV1 size cabin on deck 7 , it on the same level as the Explorers Lounge , Pools and World Cafe and I wouldn't have changed it a bit, Wonderful. No noise from people passing thru, almost your own private hallway . Our first Viking cruise was on deck 8 and and DV1 . That's was very good but deck 7 was much more convenient.

The crew was very highly trained and made you feel at home for all of the 23 days aboard.

The Viking group has worked very hard to improve the small areas of concern that others have expressed in their reviews (embarkation and shore excursions) . You can see and feel these improvements to their operating procedures - wonderful to see a smile on the crew even after a very long tour of duty .

When we where in some of the ports on this last cruise, I looked out at these VERY LARGE CRUISE SHIPS with 4000 plus passengers and worried that word will get out that the Viking Experience IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN WHAT THEY ARE SUFFERING THRU.

What can I say - Best Cruise Ever ! So much so, we signed up for their 141 day Around the World Adventure in 2017/18 and can't wait to leave.

Met at dust and toured the canals via Gondola , we had a boat in front of us with a signer and music ! What a memory ! Something you will never forget.

Wonderful but a lot of walking - it's heaven on earth, what a beautiful place . one for your bucket list .

Athens (Piraeus)

80 plus steps uphill - please take note of uneven walkways, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world .

Wonderful - can be done if you have mobility issues . shouldn't be missed except on rainy/foggy days

Montenegro Highlights

Great tour- very steep and if you are scared of heights you may want to book another tour . 25 hairpin curves - we had a Wonderful Bus Driver. Stopped and had snacks a t very small local restaurant . Very Nice and something very different. I only wished we had better weather . You could see for miles if the weather was better.
