Embarkation: We arrived at the 55th Street Pier at 12:40 PM. The lines were short and as we were directed to the appropriate line we were given loading number "25". They had not yet started to allow passengers on the ship. While waiting in this line they started the loading process. The document line moved quite quickly and so did the loading process. As we received our sea pass card and cleared the preloading process our group, #25, was called. This was perfect timing for us. We were on board by 1:15 PM. I was impressed. Rating *****

Initial on board experience: The initial encounter with the crew was skewed by their welcome of passengers that was reminiscence of Celebrity Cruise Lines welcoming champagne toast. It was there but very poorly presented. And aside from the expected confusion one would expect for first time passengers on this ship, our visit to the buffet lunch area first very much impressed us. The buffet was different in a very favorable way in they prepared the meals. (Everything was "cooked" to order or carving stations.) The selection of foods was also unique for buffet foods. The coffee was exceptional. Rating *****

Other first day experiences: The rooms were scheduled to be ready at 2:00 PM. Many rooms (including ours) were not ready for us until 3:48 PM. This created a problem with the muster drill. Also, we never met our room steward and assistant until day 2. (They did not give a good accounting of their service skills throughout this cruise. That will be explained later.) The room staff is very much occupied with getting your luggage rather than greeting you. Rating **
