HAL seems only to be catering to the very old set of cruisers.

Good port choices, dining room dinners and breakfasts. Lots of lunch options but on the heavy side. Lido deck burgers and pizza were good along with the salad. Courteous and helpful staff in dining areas and cabins. As per HAL's reputation, the dinners were first class and beautifully served. However, in cost cutting moves, HAL has shorted the number of servers and it was very difficult to develop a good relationship with them as they were totally on the move throughout the entire dinner. We really missed that part of the dining experience. It was always an enjoyable, integral part of our previous cruises. We chose the seven bottle Navigatior wine package, for dining, and out of the 7 or 8 bottle on the list 2 were out of stock.

Cruise director, Michael, was a bit stuffy and aloof. Jan the evening pub trivia guy was delightful. However, the activities presented onboard, for the days at sea, were boring and unimaginative. Sixteen days of trivia, costly Bingo and Microsoft workshops don't provide for those cruisers looking for more action and involvement.

Evening entertainment was the usual HAL - C level performances with the exception of the evening show put on by the BB King band. They livened up the ship with their entertainment.

Cabin Review

Vista Suite

Cabin AA

Very nice, clean and roomy. Comfortable bed and lots of comfy pillows with good room temperature control system. Water in the sink and shower were extremely hot and you needed to be careful when using it.

Port Reviews

Lisbon

Well worth the money for the independent tour. Got more than was offered for more money by HAL.

Tenerife

Buses didn't run that long and only every half hour.

Lanzarote

Good overview of volcanoes.

Tangier

Wouldn't go on a tour in this country without a HAL tour, Disn't like stopping at the oil factory. I hate paying for a tour and then be forced to sit through a demo or wait outside to continue.

Malaga

Young and vibrant tour guide took us all over the city for a walking tour and wine tasting. It was a donation tour and had only about 15 people. He worked very hard to keep us informed and happy throughout the tour. He knew his fee was dependent on how well he did. He also didn't , make us go to a favorite shop and have us listen to a sales pitch.

Seville

2 hours in a car and 1 hour walking. Very knowledgeable and ready to answer any questions. She gave us great information and suggestions for continuing the rest of the day, in port, on our own.

La Coruna

This excursion would have been awesome if we had more than 20 minutes to explore the town. One of the most interesting cities but not given time to explore.
