This was our first experience in a Suite and we loved it! We were booked in a handicapped accessible Sky Suite - due to a physical disability and the equipment we use, we cannot sail unless we have an accessible cabin. (As a side note, I am infuriated when I read that accessible cabins are given to guests that don’t need them thereby taking away the opportunity for disabled passengers to travel.) One of our favorite Suite experiences was that daily, our amazing butler, Nilesh, would set up our balcony with room service breakfast. The Suite breakfast room service menu is amazing, so many options that are not available on the regular room service menu! The Suite balconies have a large table, perfect for a meal - Nilesh would lay a white tablecloth, set out our dishes, oh how I miss that! Later in the afternoon, around 4pm, he would return to our cabin with a massive food card, stocked with cheese plates, sushi plates, canapes, small sandwiches, cookies, cakes and fine pastries, beverages - all manner of decadence! Nilesh learned that we love sushi and so every day, he would have a special plate of sushi that he prepared just for us - he advanced us quickly past the California rolls onto the ‘real’ thing!

Michael’s Club is the Suite Class only bar/club, where the Suite Class concierge, Sara, has her desk. Anything you want or need, Sara can get for you, such as shore excursions, something special for your room, dinner reservations, etc. Sara often hosted Suite Class only events such as cruise presentations, a high tea, etc. Michael’s itself is fully stocked with premium wines, beers and liquors, open from 8am until midnight - all there for you for the asking. There is a bartender there who mixes drinks for you. Every morning a light breakfast is served here, but we preferred breakfast on our balcony presented by our butler. The premium adult beverages in Michael’s really is a special benefit for Suite Class passengers - there is no need for you to have a drinks package if you’re a Suite passenger as in Michael’s, they’re included. Sure, convenience, preference, for instance if you want a bottle of wine at dinner but we did not have a package and were thrilled as we got things at Michael’s that are only covered on the Premium package, not on the Classic.

Luminae is the other huge Suite Class benefit - the new Suite Class only restaurant. The food is excellent, many fine touches such as an amouse bouche with every meal, and what we affectionately called a pre-dessert; extraordinary bread, really, the bread is so much better than what is served in the MDR or in Blu (and I love Blu!). Service is excellent, however we felt that the elegant leisurely pace was overall, perhaps too leisurely. There is slow paced and then there is dragging……considering all that there is to do onboard, particularly in the evening with the many entertainment options, we didn’t want dinner to be a 2 to 2 3/4 hour event every evening. The other problem is this - though the dishes were well inspired and very fresh - and truly, completely different from any other restaurant on board, we felt that several proved to be sellouts to the stereotypical American palate of the average mass market cruiser. Yes, sadly, the chef has sold out to the land of the bland. I spoke to our server several times about this - for instance a curry dish on offer, well, ha, the closest the dish came to curry was if it was waved past a curry jar on the way to my table. Our server said that many of the dishes had more punch when Luminae was first launched but due to customer complaints of dishes being “too spicy”, the dishes were modified - OH TOO BAD - that really bugs me as Celebrity is supposed to be about Modern Luxury, and appealing to a more sophisticated set - so I had such high hopes for Luminae - but, no, dishes that were supposed to have some zip fell flat. I overheard so many servers saying to timid patrons when describing dishes that were supposed to have spice, “OH, but they’re not TOO spicy!!” - and even still, people wouldn’t order them. Ugh, I hate that Celebrity is pandering to the lowest common palate denominator! Step up, be chefy, be bold. But, other dishes that aren’t supposed to be on the spicy side were excellent, well conceived and executed, beautiful ingredients.
