  3. Anthem of the Seas
We chose this cruise to try the new Anthem of the Seas ship and to visit these particular ports of call. Overall we had a wonderful time. The ship is beautiful and decorated with a fun, contemporary flair. From the dining options, decoration and entertainment everything is upbeat and with a funky twist. Due to bad weather we missed our chance to try the new iFly but we did try just about everything else and had lots of fun. We had issue with our one excursion in St. Maarten on the catamaran. They have way too many people being dumped into the same spot to snorkel where the helicopter is and we could not move with out being hit int he head or kicked. It was awful. The Mirabella itself was very nice and ht staff was great, but taking so many to the same spot where other boats full of people are is not right. We moved on to Simpson Bay and had to swim to the beach and then sit in the sand which was not the greatest experience either. Our other excursions and the rest of our trip was very nice. The new dining options with Dynamic Dining was a good experience for us. I would suggest making our reservations early and if you find yourself needing to change them you can always try to go to the particular place and see if you can get in at a different time. There were two of us and it was always easy to get in early when we needed to. We found the entertainment very good and the ship beautiful and fun. We would sail on the Anthem again, although not for ten days. We had some rough weather at the beginning of the cruise and again at the end. I think this time of year is rough and sailing from he East Coast down to the Caribbean is problematic in the early spring. I made use of the medical facility and got some dramamine. Shows were rescheduled and some activities were cancelled, unfortunately due to the rough seas. Be prepared for this and if you have your heart set on doing something, plan to do it while the ship is in port. The Anthem is beautiful and our cabin had lots of storage space with a large bathroom and the staff went out of their way for the most part to make this a memorable trip.

Cabin Review

Cabin 8254
Our cabin was very large with a nice square balcony. Although the balcony is smaller than we have had on other ships and we actually did not use it as much as we have on other ships it is nice. It overlooked the lifeboats attached to the side of the ship below us so we were looking down on those and not the water but we did look out at the water so it was fine. The location was great because we were only a few short steps from the elevators and we did not experience any elevator noise. Our neighbor's did decide to allow their door to slam early in the mornings which was not very nice, however. It was odd to hear the neighbor's toilet flush, too. The desk/vanity table pulls out now so it is a wonderful feature which allows you to use this to eat breakfast or a late night snack while sitting on the sofa along with the chair pulled up to the other side. It can also be taken out to the balcony although we never bothered to do this. There is a lot of storage space which is such an added bonus. It was so nice to have everything stored away and out of our way this time. The large flatscreen tv was on the wall at the foot of our bed.

  • Culinary Excursion
Wonderful excursion. Food and culinary tour. Highlight of our trip. Walking is broken up with stops and tour guide spoke to us about history of San Juan. Stopped at landmarks and restaurants. Made mojitos, mofongo and had many other delicious treats while learning the culture of San Juan. Lasted about three hours and we stayed at last stop for a drink and to mingle before boarding the ship.

We toured Fairview Great House and Botanical Gardens and had a rum tasting on our tour of the sugar plantation. It was a wonderful tour. We learned about the life of the masters and the slaves on the beautiful property in St. Kitts and how the production of rum began before tasting many different flavors of rum. This was a different tour from many we have done but we are very glad we chose it. The rum tasting was a small part of the tour and you taste small amounts. The property is absolutely stunning.

  • Catamaran Tour
We did the Mirabella Catamaran Tour and although the catamaran itself was beautiful, the scenery was beautiful and we enjoyed our day I have to say that the snorkeling is a joke. It is known that this is not an ideal place to snorkel but we are not avid snorkelers so that was fine with us. The problem we had was they take so many people to the same spot and dump you all there that you get kicked in the side, hit in the head and end up having about 15 minutes there, not the promised 40. It is far too crowded and I was so angry. The tour continues with a sail to Simpson Bay. The boat can't get close enough to the beach to dock there so you have to jump off or take the ladder into the water and swim quite a distance to he beach. That is ok too and we used noodles. They keep the rum punch flowing for those who want it. I drank coke and my husband drank the punch. The issue I had is that once you haul yourself to he beach you have no where to sit except the sand itself. The chairs and umbrellas are for hotel guests only. With fair skin I was a bit stuck with just a baseball hat on. You sit there a while and then get back on the catamaran and head back. All in all we had fun but the snorkeling is a joke and unless you are in good shape you will basically have to get in the water and float around with a noodle. We swam and used noodles and still struggled a bit.

  • St. Thomas
It rained our day here so we shopped. We planned to go to Magen's Bay but didn't. Taxi's and shuttles are plentiful right at the port.
