We chose this cruise because it included a number of cities we wanted to see, especially Barcelona, Rome, Naples, and Venice. Also, we were excited at bring on a ship that was in only its second year afloat. We enjoyed ourselves immensely, and had only a couple of minor complaints, which I will get to later.

If you have cruised with Viking before (we did a river cruise some years ago), you know that it seems expensive in comparison to other lines--until you realize that Viking's price covers almost everything while other lines are full of add-on costs that bring the final expense of the trip up to virtually the same as Viking's. Their promos promise luxury and great service, and they truly deliver!

The ship itself was new and spotless, and the crew and staff were as friendly and competent and eager to please as one could wish for. I especially enjoyed the ambience of the restaurants and the service of the staff there. The Chef's table was my favorite spot--it served me the best steak I have ever has--but all of the restaurants had great food. There was no requirement to eat in a certain place or at a certain time, and wait times, when they occurred, were minimal.

Cabin Review

Cabin Deluxe Veranda

The cabin was spacious and included plenty of storage for our clothes, very comfortable furniture, including the king-sized bed, a mini-fridge, safe, hair dryer, and large flat screen TV. Cell service and Wi-Fi were free and smooth running. We had soft drinks, water, and snacks for free, and they were reprovisioned each evening. Room service was free as well. The shower was quite roomy, and the vanity large enough to accommodate two users. There were enough outlets of both U.S. and European style to recharge the electronics, and the room was scrupulously cleaned each day.

Port Reviews

Monaco (Monte Carlo)

The guide knew a lot and was clearly spoken. She made sure we could orient ourselves to take solo trips later and paused so we could take pictures or just spend time looking at things.

Venice

This was an overview of the Venice lagoon and provided both good photo ops and orientation to the islands that make up the metropolitan area.

Venice

This was part of the cruise line package. I liked that fact that I was able to find my way around the square and its vicinity when we went off on our own over the 3 days we were there.

Venice

Just walking around the city on a weekend is fantastic! But a day pass on the vaporetto to make your travels easier between far apart areas.
