We had been on a Viking river cruise before and were very impressed with the overall experience. We decided to book as we liked the idea of a smaller cruise ship with less than 1,000 passengers total. We booked our cruise and flight through Viking which made embarkation and disembarkation a breeze. Viking was at the airport to meet us when we flew in to Barcelona.
We had a Penthouse veranda cabin on the ship which was very large and well appointed and it also had a mini bar stocked with small bottles of liquor and a few snacks. The bathroom was nice and had a heated floor which was appreciated. The ship itself was beautiful with a wonderful spa that we loved and used frequently. We found ourselves using all areas of the ship as they were all so nice.
Food on the Viking Star was very good with the best food being in the restaurants on the ship. My sister had a birthday on the ship and although we did not let Viking know in advance when I mentioned it at dinner in the Chef's Table, a birthday cake was waiting for her when she returned to her cabin. Viking had some type of entertainment every night and we really enjoyed the show with Paul Fredericks. Viking also had movies, interesting lectures and port talks as well.
Very large cabin with a king bed, plenty of storage space, a large dressing table and a sofa, chair and table. There was an outside veranda with a table and two chairs. A hairdryer, binoculars, bathrobes, slippers, blanket, an umbrella and toiletries were all provided as well as a small minibar which was restocked every day. The bathroom even had heated floors which was a very nice touch.
