Enjoyed previous river cruise so thought we'd give this a try.

Overall, we were very pleased. We traveled as two adult (over 60) couples without children. Accommodations were comfortable, ship never seemed crowded, is well designed, and the food was plentiful with many items from which to choose, and was overall of good quality. For the most part, the service was up to the high standards of Viking Cruises. The computer services left much to be desired; too few computers, insufficient bandwidth even when not enroute, and too many internet ports blocked. So if you plan on remotely logging in to a computer at home or work, you may likely encounter a performance problem or be simply prohibited and an unsympathetic ear. I understand that too many people are quick to upload their new photos consuming way too much of the shared and limited internet bandwidth; some cell phones may even do this automatically without the owner realizing it. Polite, perhaps frequent, reminders to the guests might be a viable approach. Remotely accessing a work or home computer (without video) is not as much a load on the network as uploading photos and videos. With the world more connected and dependent on immediately sharing their life experiences, the challenge by Viking to better accommodate these needs of their guests will only increase.

The best part of our departure and destination ports was the time we spent on our own. We booked 3 nights in Rome prior to our departure from Civitavecchia Port. We rented an apartment. Sure we had to handle the expense of getting to the apartment and later to the port, but with the help of our gracious host that process was smooth and economical.
