We have sailed with Viking before so already knew how good they were. Cruising through the Rhine Gorge is amazing so much to see and do. From the moment of arrival on the ship you are treated like royalty, nothing is too,much trouble for the crew. You will meet everyone from the Captain down and they all marvellous at making sure your trip goes smoothly. The ships crew are definately one of the best things about Viking. Cabins are a good size & beds are very comfortable. Housekeeping is excellent, towels changed at least once a day and toiletries (l'occtaine) replenished as needed. Unlike larger cruise ships, dining is a more intimate experience. Seating is open and the food is very good, lots of choices to suit most palates. Evening entertainment was not lavish, perhaps a quiz, or a musical treat from local musicians but always enjoyable. The Viking organisation of excursions is second to none. Viking have their own fleet of luxury coaches and everything is planned to perfection. We never waited in line for anything, all tickets/entrance fees dealt with in advance so Viking tours were always taken to the head of any queue. The daily programme is full and can be very hectic if you decide to do everything on offer, but some of our favourite times where while sailing to just sit and watch the wonderful scenery passing by. Makes for great photo opportunities. The morning we sailed through the Gorge was simply breathtaking. Weather was very cold (March) but snuggled in my thoughtfully provided blanket and drinking hot chocolate laced with rum it was a magical, never to be forgotten moment. The itinery, for us, was perfect, just the right mix of culture, architecture and sight-seeing to give an insight in to the places we were visiting.
